New Resolution – CFBM Authorizes Biomedical Professionals to Request Laboratory Tests

April began with news for aesthetic and integrative biomedical professionals, and those qualified in other specific areas, who will now be able to request laboratory tests. The profession has been taking up more and more space in the health sector, gaining greater freedom and autonomy to advance treatments and, in this way, provide a better quality of life for their patients.

On Monday the 12th, the Federal Council of Aesthetic Biomedicine (CFBM) published Resolution No. 347/2022, which governs the requesting of laboratory tests in specific areas of biomedicine.

“At last, we Aesthetic Biomedical Professionals got what we wanted for so long: we can request laboratory tests! This is essential and very important in the screening and follow-up of our aesthetic patients, because any metabolic change can make them ineligible for various aesthetic procedures. With this authorization from the CFBM, we will be able to work with even more safety in each patient's case. Not to mention that for years we had been asking for a resolution that would let us use our laboratory knowledge in this way”, emphasizes Dr. Ana Carolina Puga, founder and general director of Nepuga/Fapuga.

Keep reading to better understand the new resolution and the benefits it brings to aesthetic and integrative biomedical professionals.

Biomedical Professionals Can Request Laboratory Tests

Resolution No. 347/2022 brings biomedical professionals the autonomy they need to request the laboratory tests they consider necessary for their patients.

According to Article 1 of the Resolution, “it is the responsibility of the biomedical professional to request laboratory tests for the follow-up needed in professional practice in the following activities and qualifications: phytotherapy, traditional Chinese medicine, ozone therapy, extracorporeal perfusion, genetic counseling, aesthetic biomedicine, and sports physiology and the practice of physical exercise”.

Benefits for Aesthetic and Integrative Biomedical Professionals

This resolution is a fundamental step toward the autonomy of the Aesthetic Biomedical Professional in screening and following up patients, since any metabolic change in a person can make them ineligible for aesthetic procedures.

Dr. Ana Carolina reveals that for years she had been asking the Council for a resolution allowing biomedical professionals to use all the knowledge they have for laboratory tests.

“With this authorization we will be able to work with even more safety in each patient's case. Resolution 374/22 extends to all other areas of biomedicine that deal directly with patients; in fact, this closeness is the result of a great achievement we reached back in 2010, with the Aesthetic Biomedicine resolution, which opened the doors to several other qualifications for biomedical professionals to work on people's well-being, such as PICs (Integrative and Complementary Practices), ozone therapy, phytotherapy, exercise physiology, and others”, explains Dr. Ana Carolina.

In the classes of the postgraduate programs and courses at Nepuga, requesting laboratory tests related to each aesthetic procedure will already be taught.
