Aesthetic Nursing – Dr. Sabrina Macedo Shares Her Story of Resilience

“My story of resilience begins in 1999, with my son's cancer diagnosis”

Dr. Sabrina Macedo Peres got a fresh start in life through Aesthetic Nursing. After going through hardships that would bring anyone down, the word that comes closest to defining this professional is resilience.

Among so many reasons to choose the health field, her son's cancer diagnosis was the starting point that led Dr. Sabrina to begin a technical course in Nursing. “I was torn between my son's treatment, work and school, and soon after I graduated I suffered the greatest loss of my life: my son lost his battle, and mine was only just beginning.”

Despite the emotional blow, she moved forward and dedicated herself to her career in Aesthetic Nursing.

“I worked as a nursing technician for 15 years and during that time I completed my degree as a Nurse, because I have always loved this profession, and with every patient I cared for I left a little of the love I have for my son.”

A new direction in life in Aesthetic Nursing

Until, in 2020, the nurse decided to keep caring for people, but in a different way. “Ever since I was a child I have loved each person's unique beauty; as a teenager I did all my friends' makeup and hair to bring out each one's beauty. In that very heavy year of 2020, I decided to take my first course in the aesthetics field.”

During the pandemic, Dr. Sabrina was on the front line of the fight against covid-19, and she describes the experience that she and many other professionals went through. “During that period I worked in a hospital in Santa Catarina and saw up close the marks the pandemic left on each person who passed through and died in my hands. It was very challenging and heavy to go through that.”

Thinking about everything she had lived through, Dr. Sabrina decided to do something lighter for herself, so she chose to start the postgraduate program in Aesthetic Nursing, but once again her journey had many obstacles. “In the meantime, life taught me one more lesson: my mother fell ill and I could no longer afford the cost of the program, which temporarily took me away from my dream.”

After her mother passed away, Dr. Sabrina had to pick herself up again, but she managed to resume her dream. “In November, with the help of two wonderful people who work at Nepuga, I was able to resume the program, and in recent weeks I have dedicated myself to it a lot; I will soon finish the specialization.”

Dr. Sabrina's present and future in Aesthetic Nursing

Today, to support herself financially, Dr. Sabrina sees her clients, performing procedures she learned in courses she had previously taken within Aesthetic Nursing. “I'm still ‘very green’ in this new mission, but with study and dedication I choose to be great, change lives, help raise people's self-esteem and keep being a contribution to the life of everyone who crosses my path.”

Rising above every challenge she has faced along the way, Dr. Sabrina Macedo turned her pain into motivation to be better every day, and she leaves her message for professionals who are also looking to change their lives.

“I sincerely hope it serves as motivation for people who stopped believing in their potential and who, for some reason, gave up believing that we can always do more and better. No matter what happens, we can always turn pain into something to be proud of later,” says Dr. Sabrina in closing.
