autonomy in healthcare

The search for a professional career that offers autonomy in healthcare has led many professionals to rethink their paths. That was the case for biomedical professional Dr. Kamila Prado, who found in aesthetic biomedicine a way to transform not only her professional life but also her personal routine, balancing her passion for healthcare with her wish to be present for her family.

Since she was a child, Kamila grew up with the influence of healthcare in her family. Her siblings went into nursing, and she initially considered studying medicine. However, when she discovered biomedicine, she was captivated by the diversity of possibilities within the profession.

During her undergraduate studies, she had theoretical exposure to aesthetics, but at that point she still didn't imagine it would be the specialization that would change her life.

After graduating in 2020, Kamila began her professional career in food analysis, working at a large industrial company. She later worked inside a hospital, in the midst of the pandemic chaos, performing laboratory tests. The intense routine and the pressure of the moment were challenging, but they brought learning.

Afterward, she began working at a clinical analysis laboratory, where she stayed for a considerable time. It was in that setting that she met a colleague who was taking a postgraduate program in aesthetic biomedicine and introduced Kamila to the institution and the course.

Aesthetic Biomedicine and Gaining Autonomy in Healthcare

Her first contact with the specialization sparked curiosity, but also apprehension. Was this the right choice? Would it be a waste of time if she didn't like the field? Even with doubts, Kamila decided to take the risk. At first, the theoretical load seemed challenging, full of technical information and details that were new to Kamila. But over time, the learning began to make sense. When she reached the hands-on classes, she was certain she had found her true calling.

Aesthetic biomedicine not only brought professional fulfillment but also allowed Kamila to gain something she had always wanted: flexibility. During her time in laboratories and hospitals, her routine was strictly regimented, with long workdays and little room to adjust her schedule.

Now, working in aesthetics, she can organize her appointments according to her personal needs, something essential so she can be more present in the life of her father, who needs her attention and care.

Her relationship with her family has always been a fundamental point in Kamila's life. During the pandemic, isolation and restrictions heightened the need for work that allowed more freedom. Today, she can plan her schedule to take her father to the doctor and handle other personal demands without the rigidity of a traditional job.

“With this flexibility, I can fit my patients around my routine. If I need to be with my father in the morning, I see my patients in the afternoon. That completely changed my life”, she says.

Another important factor in the transition to aesthetics was the desire to impact people's self-esteem and well-being. Kamila has always liked the beauty field and believes in the power of self-image for confidence and happiness. When she realized she could combine her passion for aesthetic procedures with her biomedical knowledge, she found a new professional mission.

“I love feeling good about myself and I want to give that to other people. Self-esteem is very much in the spotlight, and both men and women are looking to feel better about themselves. Being able to contribute to that is very rewarding”, she says.

Her dream now is to open a clinic that offers a complete service within aesthetics, bringing together professionals from different specialties in a single space. The idea is to create an environment where patients can have everything from injectable procedures to complementary treatments, such as massages and eyebrow design, without having to travel to several places.

The story of Dr. Kamila Prado is an example of how aesthetic biomedicine can provide not only professional growth but also a new outlook on life. With passion, dedication, and the desire to transform her patients' self-esteem, she found in the specialization a way to unite her vocation with her personal needs, showing that it is possible to have a rewarding profession without giving up what really matters.

More than that, her journey shows how autonomy in healthcare can be a differentiator for professionals seeking more freedom, fulfillment, and quality of life.
