Dr. Cibele Fernandes on working as an aesthetic pharmacist

The Aesthetic Pharmacist says, “I've been fascinated by aesthetics for some time. I've always been interested in techniques and new products for all kinds of problems that affect aesthetics, especially for women.”.

Dr. Cibele Fernandes graduated in Pharmacy from Universidade Positivo in 2009 and struggled to adapt to the exhausting hours in drugstores and the low pay. Tired of that routine, in 2015 she began the postgraduate program in Aesthetic Pharmacy.

Since entering the field as an Aesthetic Pharmacist, the alumna says she makes much better use of her time, balancing work and study and still having time to enjoy her travels. Today, as an entrepreneur, she focuses on her business, but she remembers her work as a pharmacist.

The aesthetic pharmacist found an opportunity to earn more working in this field

“Our profession offers a huge range of areas to work in, but especially for recent graduates, the only doors that open are drugstores and clinical analysis laboratories. The other areas require experience that is often not acquired during undergraduate studies and end up restricted to a privileged few. When it comes to pharmacies and drugstores in general, what drives professionals away the most is the work hours”, says Dr. Fernandes.

She says that pay in general is not so bad, but to get it you have to work a heavy schedule, which deprives professionals of their personal lives. Besides the hours, another frequently seen problem is the schedule offered to new professionals, usually overnight in exhausting shifts. “I see many colleagues juggling more than one job to support their families“.

The specialist, who completed her postgraduate program in 2016, says she was very enthusiastic about the opening of another market for pharmacists:

“It's very rewarding to be able to apply all the knowledge I gained during my undergraduate and postgraduate studies, I'm loving it. But I still see few pharmacists qualified in this new market. There are only those who work in cosmetology, which has been one of pharmacists' specialties for many years. The presence of these professionals in Aesthetic Clinics is still very scarce, but we hope this scenario changes and that we can soon see them working in the field.”

In 2019, Dr. Cibele opened her own beauty and aesthetics clinic in Curitiba, fulfilling a dream she had had since her postgraduate days. The space was designed to be cozy and complete in aesthetic and beauty services. That is why Une Clinique offers manicure, pedicure, micropigmentation, hairdressing, as well as ozone hair treatments, skin cleansing, injectable applications, lifting and PDO threads, among others.

“I hope to apply all my knowledge to help the people who come to us and improve their quality of life and even their self-esteem. My plans are already set and I am ready to meet the needs of those who come to us, with great responsibility and commitment to what I chose as my profession.”.
