Dentist points to surgical focus as a differentiator in HOF

Even with little time since graduating, the dentist you will meet today already has an admirable track record and is following an inspiring career in dentistry. Particularly interested in the surgical side, he highlights it as a differentiator in HOF (Orofacial Harmonization), the specialization he is currently taking.

Diogo Busch de Andrade is from the south side of São Paulo. He graduated from the Centro Universitário das Faculdades Metropolitanas Unidas (FMU). Diogo also did an exchange program at the Faculdade de Medicina Dentária da Universidade do Porto (University of Porto School of Dental Medicine) in Portugal, and says it was a wonderful experience for his Dentistry education.

Orofacial Harmonization, and Surgical Too

He currently works at a clinic focused on implants, but says he has also worked in administration, in emergency rooms and in Basic Health Units (UBS). He has always liked the health field, and especially highlights his appreciation for the surgical side of dentistry.

He is taking the postgraduate program in Orofacial and Surgical Harmonization (HOF). His interest in surgical practices was one of the main reasons he wanted to take this specialization. He comments:

“What caught my attention about the postgraduate program was the Orofacial Harmonization, and Surgical angle. So the surgical angle is what sparked my initial interest in the institution – lip lifting, temporal lifting, buccal fat removal, double chin liposuction…”

He sees the surgical side of the qualification as a differentiator in HOF, with the potential to set dentists apart from other professional categories that may be qualified to perform injectable aesthetic procedures but cannot be qualified to perform more invasive and surgical procedures.

Why the Specialization Is Better Than Quick Courses

He also mentions his wish to train, through the postgraduate program, with quality and a meaningful breadth of procedures compared to what is offered through modular courses, which are more specific and short. On this, Diogo Busch points out:

“I do not agree that in three days you learn everything you need to be a good harmonization practitioner. Not only the surgical part, but also knowing all the anatomy, legislation, pharmacology, other subjects that I think are extremely important for someone who is going to specialize in this field.”

And he stresses the cost-benefit of the postgraduate program by comparison:

“Instead of spending a high amount on a two-day course, it is better to invest in a postgraduate program, where I will see everything I want to learn, over a longer time with professors I know I will get support from, professors with experience and a great résumé.”

Expectations for a Life Change

Beyond going deeper into the surgical side that interests him so much, Diogo also sees the prominence Aesthetic Health has in Brazil, and sees how harmonization in aesthetics is a very promising field, both financially and in terms of quality of life for a facial harmonization specialist.

His expectation is that, by working in aesthetic procedures, he can also secure the schedule flexibility and autonomy he values in his life, which will allow him time to take other courses in the future and stay an up-to-date professional. He is even considering the possibility of pursuing a master's degree in orofacial harmonization.

Ozone Therapy: Another Differentiator in HOF

The qualification in Ozone Therapy is part of the curriculum, can be seen as another differentiator in HOF, and is something new for Diogo. He says that, before the specialization, he had only heard of this therapy, and he is excited about adding one more treatment to his résumé and to the approaches available with his patients.

Ozone Therapy is an Integrative Practice that can help before and after procedures, since it promotes a reduction in inflammatory processes, cleansing of pathways and a reduction in edema. Given these benefits, the qualification in Ozone Therapy proves to be of great value for dentists, giving more confidence in performing procedures.
