Most of the time, when a nurse moves into Aesthetic Health, it is because they are looking to transform their routine, their life and gain more freedom. That is why Aesthetic Nursing has become a viable alternative with many benefits for these professionals.
For Dr. Floripes Antônia Carmo, it was a way out that was not only promising but also healthy, and the final chapter of a career of more than 20 years. At 59, the nurse was one of the professionals who worked on the front line during the pandemic, but after contracting the disease and being left with lasting effects, she decided it was time to change the course of her life.

Aesthetic Nursing: working with health and love
Choosing nursing is backed by the love professionals have for caring for people, and with Floripes it was exactly that way. Her love for caring for others kept her working as a nurse for more than 20 years. But after contracting Covid and recovering, though with lasting effects on her joints and movement, she decided to reset her life at 59 years old.
“Because of the front line, where I came across many weakened and sad patients, I decided to go into aesthetics. And besides, I can leave nursing and still touch lives and give guidance in the health field, because aesthetics is health, it's well-being, it's beauty,” the doctor says.
She also explains that she has even started the retirement process, but doesn't want to sit still and wants to keep working with what she loves and keep specializing, after all, this is Floripes's sixth postgraduate program and the only one outside the hospital field.
The nurse is divorced and has two children who are already married, so she says Aesthetics also comes to fill that space in her life. And to complete her happiness about changing fields, Floripes reveals that besides the satisfaction of seeing others happy, she will also have time to take care of herself.
“And another thing, in nursing I saw myself only taking care of others, and now I'll be able to take care of myself. Because when we dedicate our time to others, we don't realize that we need to be cared for too, and everyone forgets to take care of the nursing staff, we come last.”
The future in Aesthetic Nursing
Dr. Floripes is already close to finishing her postgraduate program and plans to start her own business in the Aesthetic Health sector. “I have room to grow, I already have the clinic practically set up,” she says.
Because of her age, she imagined she would have a hard time adapting to the studies and the new field, but since she is a nurse and already had skills with injectables, the adaptation was very easy for her.
“I only have two theory subjects left to finish and I'm on my fourth day of practice, I loved it. On the first day I filmed it, sent it to my family and everyone was delighted,” she says.
Completing the postgraduate program in Aesthetic Nursing is the first step toward the calmer, more comfortable routine that Dr. Floripes is looking for in her life.
“Everything I've seen so far is great, I'm enjoying it a lot and I have eight more days of clinical immersion to gain more knowledge and improve even more. So it was a way out that I chose and it will be successful,” the doctor concludes.
