Aesthetic Nursing: Dr. Mariane Caldeira Finds Her Place in Aesthetics and Already Works in a Partnership

For some people, it is easy to identify during college which area they want to build a career in and specialize in. For Dr. Mariane Caldeira Xavier it was different, and the Aesthetic Nursing Postgraduate Program was always on her radar.

She had not yet figured out which career to follow, but she always knew which one she did not want. “During college I always thought I didn't want to be stuck in a hospital. We know the hospital atmosphere is very tense, so I didn't want that for myself. So much so that when I graduated I barely worked as a nurse,”, she says.

Dr. Mariane is from Indaiatuba, São Paulo, and is currently finishing her Aesthetic Nursing Postgraduate Program and already works in the field in partnership with a friend. Learn her story in this Success Story.

Aesthetic Nursing Postgraduate Program: ‘I found myself’

Even though she only worked in hospitals during her internships, Mariane always knew it was not what she wanted. “What I saw [in hospitals] was the pressure. I felt it a lot, personally, from the patient, from their family, and from the professionals themselves. And the schedule too, because of the night shifts, it's very tiring,”, she explains.

Talking with a friend who is an aesthetic biomedical professional, she learned about the benefits of the field and was advised to take the Aesthetic Nursing Postgraduate Program at Nepuga. She says she always liked aesthetic procedures, even though she hadn't performed many. “So I thought that if I went into Aesthetic Health, I could set my own schedule and have my freedom,”, she says.

Another factor that weighed on her decision to move into aesthetics was the desire to work promoting well-being and happiness for people. When patients are in the hospital, they are not happy and do not want to be there, and it ends up being a sad environment. And that is the complete opposite of what Aesthetics offers.

The postgraduate student says that if a patient arrives at the office sad, right after the treatment they leave happier. Happy about the treatment she herself performed, with her own work, and that is extremely rewarding for an aesthetic professional.

“I'm very happy, I kind of found myself. Because after college I felt very lost, I didn't fit in, I went into other areas and didn't find myself. And now I feel I'm on the right path, so I'm really enjoying it and can't see myself doing anything else,” she reveals.

Opportunities: partnership and financial return

With just two hands-on classes left before Dr. Mariane finishes her Aesthetic Nursing postgraduate program, she says she is already working in the field, since she feels confident performing the procedures that used to make her nervous. She works in partnership with her biomedical friend, and that schedule flexibility is what she enjoys most.

In addition, both decided to embrace the new field and left their other jobs; now they focus only on aesthetics. And even though they are just starting out and need patience to wait for patients to show up and fill the schedule, the doctor says she already sees that the financial return is very good, even better than at the hospital.

“It's a field that is giving a really good financial return. You set your own value, because it's your work, it's the courses you've taken and are still taking.”

And for those who are still afraid to change fields and leave their comfort zone, Dr. Mariane advises that fear will always exist, but you have to take a chance, because if you don't, you will never know how it would have turned out.

“I and many other people I talked to felt insecure, thinking we'd be starting from zero, wondering how patients would come to us and what we'd do to make that happen. But if I didn't believe in myself, I wouldn't reach those people. So it's about believing you can do it, really taking the risk, and if you don't like it, it's fine to go back to where you were. You can take a chance on aesthetics and on many other fields; I tried aesthetics and I'm enjoying it. The secret is to try and not settle,”, concludes the doctor.
