Alert to career opportunities, Silvia Letícia Barbosa is renewing her passion for her profession through change. Her encounter with the specialization in aesthetic nursing has offered a way to keep working at what she loves, without the wear and tear of such long shifts, and with the opportunity to start her own business.
Silvia Letícia has been dedicated to nursing for 16 years, 10 of them in urgent and emergency care. She has a true passion for the profession she chose for her life, and for the attention and care it allows her to give. That is why she can't see herself doing anything else, but she recognizes that the working reality of hospital emergency nursing is quite draining.
She shares her view on the training and careers of health professionals, saying there is a fixed idea that you can only work in hospitals, and that's it. But Silvia decided to do some research in order to break that conviction, and in doing so discovered her potential in aesthetic health, which she is now developing in the Aesthetic Nursing specialization.
The constant pursuit of study and growth
And she says she won't stop at this specialization. Her plans are to keep studying more and more in the field, which is very important for health professionals throughout their careers.
Of course, continuing to improve and stay up to date matters in every profession, but in the careers of health professionals that need carries an extra degree of responsibility, since it involves the well-being and physical integrity of other people.
In Silvia's case, her training for such responsibility began back in 2003, with a surgical instrumentation course. But with 3 months left to finish, she had to move to Rio de Janeiro, where, unable to find the same course to continue, she chose to study Nursing.
Starting with the technical level, she saw in it a path she truly wanted for her life, and so she also completed the bachelor's degree in the field, as well as the specialization in urgent and emergency care.
In the aesthetic nursing specialization, a new universe of practice
Now, 10 years after that specialization, Silvia is also finding herself in aesthetic nursing. She describes the recent discovery as another world, because of how different it is from the work she has devoted herself to all these years.
As Silvia puts it: “In aesthetics, I see the possibility of improving not only my quality of life but also my finances, and for now I want to stay in both worlds. They are two different worlds: the world of emergency care and the world of aesthetics.”
Two different worlds, and Silvia identifies with both, seeing herself practicing both forms of care. Aesthetics came along to add to nursing, offering the chance to secure a better financial return on her work, along with less draining shifts.
“The way of caring is different. And in aesthetics, I see that people also arrive sad about something that bothers them, and it's wonderful when you can give them that boost in self-esteem. They are two completely different worlds, and I ended up identifying with both.”
This way, she can put her passion for nursing into practice with a renewal of its meaning, potential, and opportunities.
Aesthetic health has become something much bigger than she imagined when she began looking for new specialization opportunities. In the day-to-day reality of someone who truly immerses herself in the field, as Silvia has done, a new universe of possibilities opens up, a true renewal of opportunities within nursing and care.
