Pharmacists were the professionals who entered Aesthetic Health right after biomedical professionals, when the aesthetic and integrative biomedical professional, Dr. Ana Carolina Puga, fought and opened the doors for her profession before the CFBM (Federal Council of Biomedicine). With CFF Resolution No. 616/2015, Aesthetic Pharmacy came along to expand the range of procedures pharmacists can perform.
After that, many professionals who had settled behind pharmacy counters saw an opportunity to do something more and transform their lives. Dr. Laís Rodrigues, who has always been passionate about her profession, saw Aesthetic Pharmacy as a way to bring quality of life to people.

Aesthetic Pharmacy: Passion for Quality of Life
Dr. Laís is from the city of São Paulo and has worked in health clinics and hospitals. She is currently a pharmaceutical sales representative for a manufacturer. “I liked working in those places, dealing with people, but it wasn’t really the field I wanted to work in”, she explains.
That was when she began researching Aesthetic Pharmacy more and more, and saw that the field could bring into her reality that desire to provide well-being, quality of life, and raise people’s self-esteem.
“Self-esteem is very important in our lives; if we don’t like ourselves, we won’t do anything happily. That’s why I can’t wait to graduate so I can really work in Aesthetic Health and help raise my patients’ self-esteem, so they can be happier”, says Dr. Laís.
Another interesting aspect of Aesthetic Pharmacy is the schedule flexibility and the personal and professional autonomy it will give her as an aesthetic pharmacist, since Dr. Laís has a young daughter and needs more time and free hours to be with her.
“The hospital setting is very demanding; you do it with a lot of love, but at the same time it takes a lot from your personal life. There are no weekends or holidays, and I see that in aesthetics it’s different, I’ll have the freedom to organize my hours and my routine”, she states.
Future Plans as an Aesthetic Pharmacist
Dr. Laís says she wants to have her own clinic in the future, but at first she will combine Aesthetic Pharmacy with her current job. According to the aesthetic practitioner, since Brazilians increasingly tend to take care of themselves, seeking aesthetic procedures that improve their quality of life and well-being, now is an excellent time for pharmacists to enter the Aesthetic Pharmacy market.
“We can stand out in this market. Pharmacists are still very hesitant to come into this field, but there’s no need to be, because it’s a very broad field with lots of opportunities. Even though it’s a relatively new field for us, at the same time it offers the chance to stand out in the job market by doing work with care, love, and a lot of dedication”, she advises her colleagues.
