On a visit to Belo Horizonte (MG), Dr. Ana Carolina Puga toured the clinic of yet another alumna of the postgraduate program. She not only saw the physical structure of the clinic but, above all, saw up close how what was taught in the postgraduate program resonates through a specialist she helped train, and saw those values in practice, in the humanization of care for aesthetic health patients.
This time, the alumna visited was Dr. Gabriela Moraes, who began learning from Dr. Ana even before Nepuga or Fapuga existed, when courses were still taught at Corporalle – the aesthetic clinic Dr. Ana opened in 2005, when she began working in the field and fighting for aesthetic biomedicine to be properly recognized and regulated.
Once that achievement was reached, Dr. Gabriela also took the postgraduate program in Aesthetic Biomedicine.
If you don’t yet know more details about this fight, by clicking here you can learn everything about Dr. Ana Carolina Puga’s career and how this pioneering story in Aesthetic Biomedicine came together, in her own words.
So Much to Talk About
So, you can imagine the two aesthetic biomedical professionals had a lot to talk about, a lot to say in retrospect. They talked about how the field has changed and is consolidated today, having changed career prospects for biomedical professionals as a whole.
Both notice that the field inspires women to take on an entrepreneurial spirit, since they are the majority in both biomedicine and aesthetics, and the field offers the possibility of being a professional with autonomy and excellent recognition when starting a business, both in terms of professional fulfillment and compensation.
As Dr. Gabriela says: “We follow two professions, that of entrepreneur and that of biomedical professional, and we have the opportunity to grow in both.”
Entrepreneurial Spirit and Your Own Definitions of Success
Even with an entrepreneurial spirit in a prominent field, aesthetics business owners need to build their own space, understand how they want to work, and understand their own definitions of success, that is, which achievements matter most to them.
And the alumna tells Dr. Ana how running her own business in the field makes her truly fulfilled. Despite earlier opportunities to work in clinical analysis, she says: “The other fields are nice, but in aesthetics you really feel fulfilled.” And she considers having the postgraduate foundation essential to practice.
Dr. Ana adds, drawing on the experiences she has gathered throughout her own career: “A workday at the hospital takes a lot of energy, the environment is very heavy… I would teach 10 hours of class and not get tired, but 8 hours at the hospital left me exhausted.”
Still on the subject of fulfillment, Dr. Gabriela realized she likes to follow every stage of her patient care, from prospecting and initial conversations.
Although she has worked in a partnership before, today she prefers working in a smaller space, which was the space Dr. Ana had the chance to visit.
Meet This Successful Clinic
Located in the Paquetá neighborhood of Belo Horizonte, the clinic was recently renovated, in August 2022. It is a well-structured, welcoming space, from the cappuccino at reception to the warmth of the care.
The clinic also works with a marketing company hired to help with communication, in addition to two other professionals. One helps at reception and the other, also a biomedical professional, Luiza Giarola, interned at the office and today assists with body procedures and also with something new at the clinic, a weight-loss program.
Dr. Gabriela is more focused on facial procedures, so the partnership with another professional makes care at her clinic even more complete.

Humanizing Care for Aesthetic Health Patients
From the care she directs to her patients, the aesthetic biomedical professional says that “they come in as patients and become friends,” because aesthetics is closely tied to other aspects of life, health and well-being, to the way people feel, see themselves and express themselves.
That is why it is common for patients to share very sensitive parts of their lives, talking about their motivations and expectations for the procedures.
Dr. Gabriela then reminds us that aesthetic professionals are, above all, health professionals, and need to take care to welcome patients and the issues they bring to the office appropriately.
And it is this humanization of care for aesthetic health patients that Dr. Ana hopes to find when she visits her former students, although it is a pleasant surprise that the philosophy she works so hard to consolidate is so intrinsically linked to the care of the professionals she has met.
