Dentist from Jundiaí wants to give others the same confidence she gained from aesthetic procedures

Many professionals who became aesthetic practitioners were once patients of aesthetic procedures and, feeling firsthand the change in well-being this type of care can offer, decided to direct their own careers toward aesthetic health. The dentist you are about to meet also says that this was one of her motivations for taking the specialization in HOF (Orofacial Harmonization).

Dr. Jamile Branco is a dentist who graduated in 2004. Her main specialty is Orthodontics, but today she is deepening her knowledge and training to perform aesthetic procedures. She says that feeling firsthand how these procedures can boost self-esteem was decisive in her decision to take the Postgraduate Program in Orofacial and Surgical Harmonization.

“I had some procedures that gave me my self-esteem back, gave me back the desire to talk to people. I had always been very shy, and after I had some procedures I really changed my posture, my way of talking with patients, with people…”

Working in Orthodontics, she also says that many patients, when they finish treatment, ask about other procedures, see the result of a more harmonious smile and also envision changes to the face to go with their new smile.

Noticing this demand, Dr. Jamile first took short, modular courses, which qualified her to perform some procedures but did not give her enough confidence or breadth of techniques.

“When I saw the course here I fell in love with the content, the course schedule, and also the professors who fit in here. I knew some of them, so I decided to do another specialization in this area, because it complements a lot… And then I fell in love, I fell in love with HOF and dove headfirst into this part of Dentistry.”

With HOF, Dr. Jamile also wants to expand her range of practice responsibly, because she knows well that dealing with people's appearance and self-esteem is very delicate and requires knowledge of possible complications and full confidence to act.

The dentist says she still really enjoys intraoral procedures, but that this may change with her new qualification. She says: “I used to see the patient leave with a beautiful tooth and, nowadays, leave happy, with a fulfilled soul because they had botulinum toxin, had the filler, left happy, left complete, and that is what I want, for them to leave better and better, happier and happier.”

The Demand for Aesthetic Procedures on the Face

Other dentists specializing in different areas also notice demand from their patients for extraoral aesthetic procedures.

Lívia Maria Liberali, for example, who is an oral and maxillofacial surgeon and a specialist in oral rehabilitation, says that after treatment patients often picture their smile with lip filler as well. It is an ideal that patients can build of their own image, and they will look to fulfill it with qualified professionals.

Roberta Rotta, also a postgraduate student in HOF, wants to become an orthodontics specialist in the future and be able to offer the procedures she is learning in the specialization as the grand finale of treatment.

More and more health professionals are specializing in aesthetic health because there is market demand, aesthetic procedures are highly valued, and Brazil is the fourth-largest beauty market in the world.

The Importance of Aesthetics in Health

People want to feel good about themselves so they can be confident and comfortable, so that their own appearance is not a source of worry that eventually hurts performance at work or in other areas of social life.

These issues are fundamental to health seen in a comprehensive way. This is because health cannot be understood in isolation, in its physical or emotional well-being aspects. Health is a whole made up of parts that are intrinsically important to one another; the WHO defines health this way.

And even in Dr. Jamile's experience it is notable how aesthetic procedures can positively influence the communication aspect of health. She says she feels better about her own appearance, became more confident and was better able to explore her potential for expression, whether in communicating with her patients or in other facets of her life. A transformation she has the satisfaction of bringing to her patients as well through aesthetic procedures.
