The birth of a child always brings changes to a family. Even more so for whoever takes on the role of mother. In some cases, like the one you will read about today, the event transformed a professional's career. In this story, Aesthetic Pharmacy was the alternative!
Amanda Lima de Oliveira is a pharmacist from Goiânia (GO). While still very young, she chose to study pharmacy. By age 20 she already had her degree. She gained the experience on her résumé at a hospital. But with the birth of her son, everything changed. For the better!
Pharmacist
Amanda says she chose her degree very early and in just a few years she had graduated.
“I decided to be a pharmacist very young. I graduated at 20. I always liked the health field and wanted to take care of people. I always liked chemistry and substances. So pharmacy always caught my attention”.
Currently, after 12 years since graduating and many more working with an intense routine, she decided to change. “Aesthetics came up when I had my son. I had very long work shifts and decided that this wasn't what I wanted from that moment on”.
Aesthetic Pharmacist
Amanda says she no longer works as a pharmacist in the traditional field of her profession. She is even making plans for the future. “As soon as I finish the postgraduate program, I plan to form partnerships. But by the end of the year I want to have my own clinic”.
You know the reason: the intense, nonstop work routine that didn't allow the flexibility to be present in her son's life at the hospital. “We even joked that there was a time to clock in, but never a time to clock out”.
With the birth of her son came the changes. “When I had my son, I thought: ‘in 10 years, where do I see myself?’ And I didn't see myself inside hospitals, taking care of sick people. I want to take care of health, self-esteem, well-being. I want to see smiles”.
The Benefits of Aesthetics
One of the main motivations for choosing aesthetics is the schedule flexibility it allows, which is important for having more free time to be with her son.
“We can make our own schedule. I know it won't be easy. At the start of your career, you have to dedicate yourself more. But the important thing is that I get time to stay with my son. An hour or part of the day. A whole day to be with him. I think that's important in life”.
Amanda says she already knew that pharmacists could work in aesthetics. “I already had that knowledge. But the click came when I thought: I don't want to go back to the hospital. Then, talking with a friend, we thought: why not try this new journey? And off we went”.
Aesthetic Pharmacist in Love With the Field
Choosing aesthetics made her happy. Today she sees that her son's birth was necessary to give her the push to look for better working conditions, with more flexible hours and a routine that valued her personal life more. “And that is what has made my heart beat faster”.
For Amanda, anyone with aptitude and love for what they do can move into aesthetics too. “I'm finding myself in aesthetics and I never imagined that 12 years after graduating. It's a new field, a new specialization. And I'm falling in love more every day”.
And she adds: “I believe many people can fall in love too, because aesthetics is captivating. Seeing the smiles of people who feel good and think they look beautiful because of procedures you do well is priceless”.
Specialized Aesthetic Pharmacist
The aesthetic pharmacist is finishing her postgraduate program in Aesthetic Pharmacy. That is why she says she is still finding her best area of practice within this segment. “There are several things catching my attention”.
For example, she says that at first she thought she preferred facial aesthetics. “But now the body catches my attention more. So with each class I make a discovery. Little by little, I'm seeing where I have the most affinity”.
She talks about another area of practice. “ Ozone therapy is one more option for us. Health professionals have total autonomy. We had anatomy classes, we know the human body. We know physiology. For all of these reasons, ozone therapy is a field we can work in”.
They Also Wanted More Time
Her name is Talita Miazzo. She is a nurse. The problem started when she needed to find time to take care of her son, work and study. All at the same time. The solution was aesthetic nursing, which also allowed her to reap financial rewards.
Emília Ferreira also followed the same path: aesthetics. The reason is the same: she wanted free time for her son. A biologist who graduated 13 years ago, she says: “I saw the chance to work in the health field and stay close to my son”.
Finally, the story of Dina Lúcia da Silva. She is a biomedical professional who worked for more than 1 year at a hospital until she noticed that the shifts were keeping her away from her family. “My kids were teenagers and I wanted more time for them”.
