There are different motivations for a healthcare professional to want to move into aesthetics, whether because they are worn out by on-call shifts and want to set their own hours, for the recognition, the financial return, or the satisfaction of bringing about a change in a patient's self-esteem.
Although all these benefits can be felt with a career change to aesthetics, there are professionals whose main motivation to move into aesthetics comes after realizing the true revolution that procedures can bring, feeling it in their own skin, after sitting in the patient's chair and enjoying the change in their own confidence.
It is a process that many professionals describe: they worked one way, were frustrated, or even restless, and a new possibility opened up after they saw the change aesthetics made in the mirror and experienced it in their own lives, and from there comes the question: “What if I could be an agent of this kind of change in other people's lives too?”
Perhaps before that the possibility had not even been considered, but caring for people – often the main motivation of those who graduated to work in healthcare – gets this new opportunity, one that deals with people's happiness instead of pain and illness, which is very rewarding day to day.
In healthcare careers, following and assisting a patient's recovery is gratifying, but in on-call routines dealing with pathologies and suffering, often without much hope of recovery, that is if the professional doesn't stay only behind the scenes, handling clinical analyses or at service counters where only sick people show up.
Meet the example of two healthcare professionals
She decided to move into aesthetics after 14 years dedicated to oncology
Patrícia Pereira de Souza is one of the exemplary professionals among those who decided to move into aesthetics after dedicating 14 years to oncology treatments as a nurse.
At a time when Patrícia was feeling unmotivated and dissatisfied with her own appearance, she had some procedures and felt a renewal of spirit; that was when she began researching, trying to understand whether she could do the same for other people, and she found in the Postgraduate Program in Aesthetic Nursing an opportunity to do it.
Besides that first interest that drew her to aesthetics, she also highlights the desire to be able to work less: “I'm also going to have a bit more time, so I have that quality of life, because it's no use just working, working, working and not living, right? I think you have to be able to do both, to have balance.”
That is because aesthetic procedures are so valued and well paid that they allow more schedule flexibility, which, in Patrícia's case, will give her more time to dedicate to her family. You can learn more about her path by clicking here.
She went into Orofacial Harmonization after 8 years of graduation
Another professional who decided to move into aesthetics after feeling the results of procedures in her own life was Dr. Laila Graziela. A postgraduate student in OFH, she says she was bothered by some aspects of her own appearance, and so she set out to improve her relationship with her self-image.
A dentistry graduate of 8 years, Dr. Laila says her interest in the field came from her family role models, since her mother and sister are also dental surgeons, and she initially followed the surgical area, although today she works more with orthodontics.

After she decided to move into aesthetics, she took some courses and, besides noticing the change in her own experience as a patient, she also began to have access to the aesthetician's perspective, that of an agent of change in her patients' self-esteem.
Today, she is specializing in Orofacial and Surgical Harmonization to have even more confidence in her work as an aesthetician.
Dr. Laila also says it is very different to work with harmonization compared to other types of treatment she performs, she feels much more excited, and says: “You see that the patient feels much better, happier, leaves fulfilled. And I, seeing the improvement I can bring about in the person, am very satisfied.”
We can see that aesthetic work provides another kind of satisfaction. The motivation to follow this path can be very personal to each individual, in what is specific to their own journey, but all those who are interested and see it as a possibility to change the course of their careers and, who knows, even their lives as a whole, have a great chance of achieving great things and helping many people along the way.
