We had the opportunity to talk with this dentist during the first clinical immersion she took part in, and we could not let it pass, because this postgraduate student comes from far away to have contact with real patients, classmates and faculty. She comes to Brazil because she sees the country as a reference in HOF, and she is one of the international students who are part of Nepuga's history.
Brazil as a Reference in HOF
Fabíola Acevedo is from Peru and found in Brazil an opportunity to specialize with quality in HOF (Orofacial and Surgical Harmonization), since she sees the country as a reference in the field.
Among her professional colleagues, she says: “Most dentists who want to focus on aesthetic procedures come to Brazil to study, because it is much more comprehensive here. So, little by little, more professionals are coming here to become specialists in orofacial harmonization.“
Orofacial Harmonization to Change People's Lives
And that desire to become a specialist dedicated to aesthetics comes from the same direction that led her to choose Dentistry as her field: it comes from the awareness of how appearance profoundly changes people, from their confidence to express themselves, smile and not feel withdrawn about features that bother them personally.
“So for me it is wonderful how the dentist can change not only the smile, but also a person's life, because they become more self-confident, because they start to like smiling, and that makes a person more beautiful, fuller of light and shine.”
Currently, Dr. Fabíola works as a general practice dentist, but she is looking to establish her own clinic in her country, where she wants to dedicate herself exclusively to aesthetics, which, according to her view of the market, is experiencing a boom in Peru.

Such is her confidence in this sector and her wish to work with aesthetic procedures that this is the first specialization course the dentist decided to invest in.
The Postgraduate Program Experience
The format of the postgraduate program in Orofacial Harmonization makes all the difference for Fabíola to be able to take the course, since the theory portion is taught in a synchronous live format, a method that allows interaction with classmates and faculty, giving the full experience without having to travel.
And the language barrier? When asked how the experience was going in that regard and whether there was any difficulty, Fabíola reported feeling very calm during classes and constant care from the faculty, who always try to speak slowly and repeat information in another way if needed.
During the interview, which you can watch in full below, Fabíola tells us a little about her experience.
What an International Career in Aesthetics Looks Like
Knowing about the possibilities of practicing in different countries is a frequent question among many health professionals who want to specialize and build an international career, but this really is a possible reality, one that more and more professionals have achieved.
Whether it is because they are from another country, because they moved to another country due to life circumstances and want to keep practicing their profession there, or even because they wish to start a new life abroad, we know these goals can be achieved.
And besides Fabíola, we have examples of other health professionals who have established themselves internationally in aesthetics with distinction, becoming great examples, truly inspiring role models for other health professionals.
One of these examples is aesthetic physiotherapist Bruna Pietta Lopes, who moved to Portugal with her family and managed to balance motherhood with a specialization in Dermatofunctional Physiotherapy, seeking to become a reference in aesthetic health in her new country.
Biomedical professional Phamela Priscila Bezerra has carved out her space in Dublin, the capital of Ireland. Dr. Phamela established her own clinic in the European city and also earned recognition through awards.
A dentist like Fabíola, Dr. Sandra Figueiredo built an international career focused on academia. A specialist in Orofunctional Rehabilitation and facial harmonization, she was invited to teach nothing less than a course at Harvard Medical School.
