Postgraduate Program in Aesthetic Health for Physiotherapists: “improves patient condition and increases income”

If you are a health professional, what have you done to deliver the best results to your clients? Célia Regina Figueira de Assis has been a physiotherapist for 15 years and, based on patient comments, saw the possibility of taking the Postgraduate Program in Aesthetic Health.

She already works in rehabilitation and has a specialty in dermatofunctional and oncology physiotherapy on her résumé. But she noticed a different movement in recent times, brought on by the pandemic: “People started coming to me to have aesthetic procedures done”.

That was when she saw the chance to work in aesthetics. However, she was out of date and had no experience with the market's new techniques. When she began researching specializations, she found a course that included several classes, such as ozone.

That was the trigger. Even more so because an oncology patient undergoing chemotherapy had already asked for the ozone therapy technique. In other words, the Aesthetic Health Course became the best option on the market for Célia. Here is an excerpt of what she said:

“I saw the chance to work in aesthetics again because patients had low self-esteem or wanted more effective treatments. I started thinking: go back to aesthetics or not? I did some research to see whether it would be worthwhile to return to this field and found the Aesthetic Health one”.

The Importance of Ozone Therapy

With the trigger of the ozone therapy classes, Célia chose Aesthetic Health: “An oncology patient came to me to have me apply ozone therapy because he had done the treatment before and got good results with the aftereffects of chemotherapy and all that”.

You know the result: “When I was looking for an aesthetics course, I found the ozone therapy course. That's why I chose it, and I'm finishing it now. I chose it because it is more comprehensive and has the ozone classes included in the curriculum”.

She talks about the benefits of ozone therapy: “In relation to chemotherapy, it brings benefits such as less nausea, less pain, more energy in daily life, and the hair didn't fall out in the last treatment”.

It is important to note that the aesthetic physiotherapist says it is not possible to obtain scientifically proven data on preventing hair loss during chemotherapy with ozone. “What is certain is that the patient feels better and more energized after ozone”.

Other Advantages of Ozone Therapy

Célia also said that, since she works in rehabilitation, she sees joint application for patients as a possibility, especially for those with osteoarthritis, arthritis and all kinds of related pain.

And there are more advantages, such as “for oncology patients, since it has the systemic component. And other conditions. So we are going to look at all of that, which allows for a differentiated treatment at the clinic”.

For those just starting out in the field, the aesthetic physiotherapist believes you have to be patient. “At first, everyone gets a bit startled when they don't know ozone therapy. So I had to do some educational work with clients”.

And she continues: “I did the work of explaining what this technique is and its benefits for each type of treatment. Without the postgraduate program, I was limited. Now I've been able to raise all this awareness, and all my patients know what ozone is and how it works”.

Increased Income After the Postgraduate Program

Besides the improvement for patients, the aesthetic physiotherapist also sees benefits of her own, which directly affect her clinic, such as the financial one.

“My income went up because when we manage to improve the patient's condition, such as relieving their pain more quickly, they invest a little more”.

And she points out another aspect: since there is the cost of the ozone itself, it is also possible to increase profit on the total treatment price. That is why she has a plan to include all the professionals at her clinic on the list of those who can apply the technique.

“For now only I apply ozone at my clinic, but I want my staff to be able to start applying this procedure too. Recently, our Council accepted ozone therapy as a technique”.

Aesthetic Health for Physiotherapists

The aesthetic physiotherapist knew what she needed to care for her patients. From there she began her search for a course.

“I looked at other educational institutions and experienced prejudice because I wanted to do a postgraduate program with injectables and they thought a physiotherapist has no knowledge in that area. They closed their doors to me. At Nepuga I didn't have that experience and I was very warmly welcomed”.

Another differentiator was the clinical immersion. “At first, I took the theory classes. Then I had the hands-on practice, which was essential. Even though I had to wait a while because of the pandemic, everything worked out. That made a huge difference in my life”.

For her, the welcome from the educational institution was important. “We face prejudice for being from other professions. People still can't fully understand the areas we work in and the knowledge we gain throughout our lives”.
