Biomedical Professional Overcame Depression with the Postgraduate Program in Aesthetics

Some moments in our lives tend to knock us down, and we need to gather strength to overcome obstacles; this biomedical professional overcame depression with the postgraduate program in aesthetics and today wants to help other women

It is incredible how we can change the course of our lives with simple decisions. They are experiences we gain throughout our lives that, in a way, influence how we think, how we act, and even how we relate to other people.

On certain occasions, fate leaves us in uncomfortable situations where we can't find the strength to fight back or react, making our days harder and without prospects. To get through those moments, we need to have help, whether from a family member or a friend. This biomedical professional's case fits that description.

We are going to tell part of Mariana Gruszkowska's story. A biomedical professional who graduated from ___, she dedicated part of her academic life to research, which is one of her passions. She spent eight years involved in biomedicine and research, as well as contributing to the teaching of other students; after all, she worked as an anatomy teaching assistant while earning her degree.

From Life as a Researcher to Entering Aesthetics

When she finished her degree, Mariana ran into the job market's difficulty in supporting research and realized that the field of work would be scarce.

According to Mariana, working in research in Brazil is a field where it is hard to get support, because investments, when they happen, are directed mainly to universities, and outside them, access to good equipment or places that offer this type of opportunity is very restricted.
Thinking about her future, she decided to enroll in the specialization in aesthetics, but it wasn't that easy.

Throughout her degree, Mariana got close to the research process, and when she finished her training, she had days of struggle with depression. With no prospects and a lack of opportunities, the biomedical professional says those were hard days, but thanks to the support of a special person, that sad moment in her life was overcome.

The “savior” who made it possible for Mariana to be attending the postgraduate program in aesthetics today was her mother. Mariana gets emotional when she talks about it and fondly recalls that it was her mother who guided her and encouraged her to turn to aesthetics as a way to face the depression.

Mariana's mother played an important and active role in the battle she was facing. It was through her mother that Mariana discovered aesthetics. Mari says that her mother, noticing her state, gave her two postgraduate programs as a gift, one in Anatomy and one in Aesthetics.

“I was depressed, and the angel of my life, my mother, wanted to give me something to pull me out of that situation. So she gave me two postgraduate programs, one in Anatomy, which was what I wanted, and another in aesthetics, and she told me to try it, and if I didn't like it, that was fine, but that I should try,” and she continues: “With that I fell in love with aesthetics, I beat depression, and here I am.”

The Appeal of Aesthetics and Procedure Preferences

Mari told this part of her life with a big smile on her face. The feeling of happiness is clear as she recalls that she had the opportunity to face such a harmful illness and, with the support of her mother, who “held her hands,” came out stronger and happier.

During her specialization, Mari is already looking at which areas of the body she plans to work on, and she would like to perform body procedures.

“I'm not a big fan of the facial side. Biostimulators, threads, and other procedures aren't my thing. I want to bring self-esteem by working on people's bodies. Localized fat, cellulite, stretch marks, solving those needs. That is my projected area of practice.”

As she got to know aesthetics and went deeper into it, Mariana saw the countless possibilities in the sector and realized that the chances for professional growth are much greater when you decide to be a specialist in this field.

As she finishes her specialization and becomes an aesthetic biomedical professional, she is planning her next steps, and one of her goals is opening a place of her own.

“I believe aesthetics has a lot more market to work in. It gives me the option of working for myself, opening my own business. In research we depend a lot on government grants, things that limited me a lot. So aesthetics comes to widen my range of options.”

Mariana intends to complete the postgraduate program in aesthetics and gain better career prospects. One of the important factors is repaying the support her mother gave her during a difficult time, since the suggestion to pursue a specialization in aesthetic health was a great idea.

“Living on a grant in Brazil is almost impossible, and aesthetics offers a better income. Aesthetics gives me the chance to have a better life and even to repay my mother for all the help she gave me, in the future, when she needs me.”

Mari's academic life doesn't end there. The biomedical professional is also taking two other postgraduate programs, one in Clinical Analysis and one in Anatomy.

“Clinical Analysis is a little safety net in case something happens (laughs), and anatomy I love. I love learning and teaching, but when I started the specialization I saw that I can teach within aesthetics itself. My goal now is to become an aesthetics professor.”

“I want to help other women support other women”

Her passion for teaching will be taken into the aesthetics field. Mari managed to change her life and face her obstacles through it. Her intention now is to share what she has learned and also transform the lives of other women. “I want to help other women support other women.”

According to Mari, taking the specialization in anatomy contributes a lot to her progress in aesthetics. She says that the exchange of knowledge between the specialties is advantageous.

“The postgraduate program in anatomy helps me a lot. I learned a lot about the layers of the skin, in much more depth, which makes me more confident working in aesthetics”
