Dr. Maisa Melo tells how there seemed to be a calling in her professional life, and by always following that calling she builds a success story in aesthetics. And she will certainly go even further.
She began her career as a preschool teacher; something called her toward healthcare, more specifically pharmacy, a degree she began in 2009, but she also studied Languages through distance learning and, while taking the course, was invited to become a pharmacy technical manager.
Dr. Maisa even owned a pharmacy, but her versatile training and her curiosity took her down another path. Asked about her motivations, she mentions a calling – a calling she listened to, an intuition that has led her to a successful career.
It may seem metaphysical or ethereal, or we can also consider that Dr. Maisa is very attentive to the opportunities and valuable information that fit into her life and her professional choices, and invests everything she has in them.
The conference that changed everything
In 2018, she says, she attended a hormone modulation conference that changed the way she sees health: she came to see medicine as highly segmented, that is, lacking attention to the whole, in an integrated way that considers each patient's singularities, habits, history, emotional state, what medications they use, how they eat, and so on.
Here on the blog, we occasionally discuss integrative health, integrative and complementary practices, and also how these practices are used and affect the work of health professionals in different fields, in careers that are also examples of success in aesthetics. Check it out.
But, returning to the protagonist of this article, this new understanding of health led her to direct and at the same time deepen her perspectives on how she could work in healthcare, and she began paying more attention to how hormonal aspects influence a person's entire body.
A success story in aesthetics
Always following her intuition, in 2019 Dr. Maisa began the Postgraduate Program in Aesthetic Pharmacy, the same year she opened her Orthomolecular Therapy clinic, Life Clean, which today also offers aesthetic treatments, in addition to hormone treatment and acupuncture, all with the care of partner professionals. The clinic is a reference in melasma treatment.
However, it took a great deal of dedication on her part to reach the quality and range of treatments available in her clinic, which make her career a success story in aesthetics.
It so happens that, when only the practical part of the specialization was missing – the clinical immersions – for her to finish the postgraduate program, the covid-19 pandemic made in-person activities impossible at the campus closest to Dr. Maisa, in Belo Horizonte.
Given the circumstances, do you think she settled? Not at all! When she learned that in-person activities were being held in Goiânia (GO), she traveled the more than 1,000 km that separated Nanuque from the capital of Goiás and went to finally finish her postgraduate program, completing that fundamental part of the specialization, which is having contact with model patients and practicing what was learned in theory.
She also highlights that it was a time of other extremely important lessons: she got to know a new city, as well as professionals who contributed valuably to her training. After all, exchanging experiences in person with faculty and classmates always has a lot to offer.
After the specialization in aesthetic pharmacy, she kept improving, always seeking new courses and deeper study. She is currently pursuing a master's degree at an international educational institution. In the future, she wants to teach abroad, in addition to being recognized for the professional she is.
Marketing inspiration too
With more than 10,000 followers on one of her Instagram profiles, she posts relevant content quite frequently and constantly shows the results of procedures she has performed. She even emphasizes: “it's no use being a very good professional, you have to show it”, you have to be seen.
Very invested in the digital marketing she does, she says she sought out marketing consulting and is always attentive to what her colleagues are doing, not to copy them, but to get creative references; she asks for opinions and is always attentive to what the public wants to see.
Two other tips she points out are: a) have an eye-catching username that is easy to find for those searching; b) use the business version of Instagram, which offers more settings for those who use it professionally.
You can follow Dr. Maisa's work on the Instagram profile dedicated to her clinic, @lifecleanestetica, or through the profile @dra.maisamelo, where she creates a lot of interesting and informative content, in addition to promoting her work. It is worth not only following, but also paying attention to the good example of professional marketing these profiles are.
