Ozone Therapy in Dentistry Changed the Course of This Dental Surgeon’s Career

Many dental surgeons come to know the applications of Ozone Therapy in dentistry within the HOF (Orofacial Harmonization) specialization. But in Dr. Janice’s case, it happened the other way around – she first learned about Ozone Therapy and sought to deepen her knowledge of it, and it was through that practice that she discovered orofacial harmonization and changed the course of her career.

Learn How This Journey Began

Starting from the beginning, Dr. Janice Lilían Parente de Ávila is from São José do Rio Preto, in the interior of the state of São Paulo, and says she started in dentistry at age 8, when she played at being a dentist, a passion that continued into adulthood. She graduated in dentistry and was passionate about dental care.

Despite that passion, a health problem in her family prompted a change in the direction of Dr. Janice’s career, which was decisive for the professional she would become. Faced with a health problem affecting her father, the dental surgeon discovered Ozone Therapy as a possible treatment, and soon went after specialized training in the practice.

With training in the integrative and complementary practice of Ozone Therapy, she was able to help treat her father and many other patients since. A possibility that only grew when she also trained to perform HOF procedures and practices.

The Career Change Brought by Orofacial Harmonization

When she found an educational institution that gave her the confidence to train in Ozone Therapy, she also discovered Orofacial Harmonization, which she initially decided to study out of curiosity, but which ended up giving her career a new shine.

At the time, the more complete HOF specialization that exists today did not yet exist, so she took several shorter, more specific courses in the field. Today, Dr. Janice has been working with orofacial harmonization for about 8 years, and feels fulfilled by the direction her career has taken. In her words:

“My life did a 360 and I’m very happy today because I do harmonization. Harmonization comes to me as something spiritual, something I found that makes me happy, that makes me a better person by seeing the changes it brings to the people we work with.”

She adds that orofacial harmonization allows professionals to bring about moving transformations in their patients’ lives, because it is possible to help treat traumas and retractions that mean a lot to people.

Why Specialize in HOF?

Despite her years of experience and all the courses Janice has taken so far, she is pursuing the postgraduate program in Orofacial and Surgical Harmonization. Her goal with this additional step in her career is to obtain the certification required by the Federal Council of Dentistry so that she can also teach and coordinate courses in the field.

Dr. Janice says she has not noticed very significant changes in correct practices compared to what she has known since she began specializing in orofacial harmonization. As she herself points out, “what is right doesn’t change.”

But beyond the pursuit of certification, another benefit of the postgraduate program that Dr. Janice highlights is the chance to exchange ideas with her classmates, faculty, and specialists in training. This exchange of experiences is of immeasurable value in professional training, since it adds other valuable perspectives and experiences to those each professional has had throughout their career.

Faculty member Dr. Cynthia Heckert Brito also says that ozone therapy in dentistry and orofacial harmonization represented big leaps in her career. Check it out here.
