Awarded in the Academic Highlight category for all her dedication throughout the Postgraduate Program in Aesthetic Nursing, Dr. Lorena Assis shared a bit of her inspiring journey with us, guiding us through the fulfillment of a dream with a career transition in nursing.
Her story is an example of perseverance and professional fulfillment. From the beginning of her path in health care, Lorena always aimed to make a difference in people's lives, seeking to offer comprehensive and humanized care.
Her passion for caregiving led her to dedicate herself to her degree, where she faced challenges such as living alone in another city, which strengthened her and prepared her for the obstacles ahead.
After graduating, Lorena says she had the opportunity to work in the interior of Tocantins. That experience was crucial for consolidating her knowledge and developing skills essential to her career.
Through specialization, the career transition in nursing
Lorena felt she could contribute even more to people's well-being. That was when she decided to pursue a specialization in aesthetic nursing, a field that would allow her to combine her nursing knowledge with aesthetic techniques to promote her patients' self-esteem and overall well-being.
As she tells it: “I believed that, beyond health care, I could contribute significantly to my patients' emotional and psychological well-being through aesthetics.”
Facing Fears and Reaching New Horizons
Facing the decision to specialize in aesthetic nursing was not easy for Lorena. She faced many fears and insecurities, such as the fear of having to build a new career from scratch and uncertainty about success in this field.
“After years of dedication and effort to establish myself in traditional nursing, the prospect of changing course and facing a new beginning was frightening,” says the aesthetic nurse.
However, her passion for the field and her desire to make a difference pushed her forward.
With dedication and constant study, Lorena has been overcoming her fears and finding great fulfillment in her work as an aesthetic nurse. Today she practices independently in her own space, where she performs botulinum toxin applications and lip filler.
Treating her patients, she is finding a form of care that brings a lot of professional satisfaction, because she sees how much aesthetics changes people's lives, contributing to each person's well-being and self-confidence.
A Rewarding and Growing Career
Aesthetic nursing gave Lorena the professional fulfillment she was looking for. She feels fulfilled being able to help people feel more confident and happier with themselves. In addition, the field offers her the flexibility and freedom she always wanted, allowing her to better balance her personal and professional life.
“When it comes to time and freedom, I see a promising future in aesthetic nursing. Compared with other fields, I feel I have finally found the balance I always looked for.”

She stays up to date on the latest techniques and trends in the field by attending courses and conferences. She is also dedicated to sharing her knowledge with others by giving talks and workshops.
