“Within Biomedicine, this is the area with the best financial return. And there is still plenty of room to grow.” That is the view of aesthetic biomedical professional Jéssica Aboud da Costa. But her story was not always one of success. “You need time and patience.” Along with the postgraduate diploma.
Today, her results are incredible. She set her own business aside to work through partnerships. She went against the market. “It's what worked for me.” This way, she has 5 jobs, teaches classes, and is close to achieving yet another goal: becoming a major reference in aesthetics.
What you will find in this text
This section is a summary of what comes next. At a friend's invitation, the biomedical professional attended a symposium by Dr. Ana Carolina Puga. That is how she discovered Aesthetic Biomedicine. And it completely changed her career. But at the beginning, like many people, she even thought about giving up.
“The field of aesthetics is enchanting. And it can go much deeper than it seems. But it's not easy. At the beginning, I earned very little. Attracting patients and promoting your own work is a complicated part. I even thought about giving up a few times.”
With dedication, effort, and a lot of determination, she reached success. “I persisted. And it was worth it. Today, I can say I have financial stability. It doesn't happen overnight. But it works.” If you want to know all the details of Jéssica Aboud da Costa's journey, keep reading.
The path to Aesthetics
Jéssica now holds a degree in Biomedicine from UFF (Universidade Federal Fluminense), in Rio de Janeiro. The problem is that her college program only had two tracks: clinical analysis and research. And she didn't want either of those areas.
“I actually really liked forensic expertise, I did an internship in that area. But that couldn't be my Plan A because public service exams are not always open.”
At that moment, something happened that would change the biomedical professional's life. “That's when a friend invited me to a Symposium that was going to be held at her college. And the idea was to learn about other tracks, including Aesthetics.” What she couldn't have expected is that she was taking the first step toward the postgraduate diploma.
“It was at one of the talks at that Symposium that I met Dr. Ana Carolina Puga. And I was delighted to see how we could work in this new field. It was at that exact moment that I decided what I wanted to do with my life.”
After that day, Jéssica started researching the field more and more. “But I couldn't find any Postgraduate Program in Aesthetics here in Rio de Janeiro. And since Nepuga was the reference on the subject, I chose to go to São Paulo because I have family there.”
That is how, right after finishing her undergraduate program, the biomedical professional joined Nepuga's 2nd Aesthetic Biomedicine class in São Paulo (SP).
The Postgraduate Diploma in Aesthetics
In Jéssica's case, the experience of the Postgraduate Program in Aesthetics in São Paulo was very positive. First because she had contact with people from other states. Then because she gained a lot of knowledge. “I had zero experience in aesthetics.”
With classes taught by Dr. Ana Carolina Puga and other qualified professionals, the biomedical professional came to be well regarded in the market (and that hadn't happened before, as we will see in the next section).
The fact is that she was now an Aesthetic Biomedical Professional, that is, a Biomedical Professional with a Postgraduate degree in Aesthetics, and she could work with much more confidence. This proves the importance of the postgraduate diploma. “After I managed to enter the market and with practice, everything became easier. I even had to turn down some invitations,” she said.
The benefits of the Specialization in Aesthetics
If at first Jéssica saw the Postgraduate Program as a necessity to specialize in an area and do her work, later she would notice other benefits of the postgraduate diploma. “A postgraduate degree creates authority with the patient.”
And she says it very candidly. “I've always looked younger than I really am. So when I graduated I faced a bit of prejudice in the market. But all I had to do was say I had a postgraduate degree and people looked at me differently.”
The biomedical professional's work in the Aesthetics market
From graduation through her first experiences in clinics, Jéssica now works in an unusual format. “I don't have my own space. I did have one, but it didn't work out. That's why today I prefer to work through partnerships. That way, I hold 5 different jobs.”
In this way, she has managed to have a consistent work schedule. More than consistency, she finds time to teach classes on some occasions. “I have a personal project of aesthetics courses, where I teach a few classes.”
Jéssica's flexibility, as she herself says, comes from having dedicated herself to being a well-rounded professional, learning and practicing various techniques and specialties. “I was always open to learning everything. I did everything. And I started growing from that.”
Currently, with career success, she has the chance to focus more on what she likes most. For example, invasive procedures, among others.
Work formats for biomedical professionals
Guilherme Charneski is another biomedical professional who teaches aesthetic procedure courses. Meanwhile, Lucas Lima is a biomedical professional focused on research, who recently published an article in the international journal Heliyon Journal Cell Press.
Carla Camargo also has a story that challenges the traditional job market. She was called crazy because she left a 10-year formal job to invest in a career as an aesthetic biomedical professional. And the result impressed everyone.
The path to the future
The biomedical professional says she is always looking for ways to stay current in the market and the postgraduate diploma was one of the best strategies. “Because the world of aesthetics has something new every moment. Patients themselves are always very tuned in to new releases and trends.”
This way, what she aims for is to keep the partnerships, which worked out very well. In parallel, she wants to become even more recognized in the Aesthetics Market, especially through courses. “I really enjoy teaching.”
