“I put my space together with nerve and courage”. This is the story of the professional evolution of Dr. Dalis Janine, who found in aesthetics an opportunity to reinvent herself in the job market.
After 17 years working in pharmacies, Dr. Dalis says she needed to broaden her horizons: “I decided to do the postgraduate program because I was a bit lost and wanted some changes, and that's where I found myself in aesthetics. From then on I dove in headfirst and kept going deeper and deeper”.
After so much time working behind a counter on long shifts, she was looking for something that could offer flexible hours. “aesthetics gives me that, not that we work less, because that's not the case, but I have more options”, she says.
Motivated by the desire to change her life, Dr. Dalis says she needed a fresh start to see new opportunities. The change of climate and work environment were the main factors that spurred her full dedication to this new stage.
One month after starting her specialization, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the pandemic in Brazil. In March 2020, Dr. Dalis was apprehensive about how her postgraduate program would proceed, but she says that despite all the difficulties and insecurities she managed to make the most of the moment, “Right after the first class, we faced the closing of the campuses, but I still managed to make the most of the classes and even save on commuting”.
Starting a career in aesthetics
A native of Jaraguá do Sul – SC, Dr. Dalis began setting up her own space in the first months after moving into aesthetics. At first she invested in equipment used in non-invasive procedures such as peels and facial cleansing.
“I bought a treatment table and started seeing relatives and close friends, so I could practice and refine the techniques I learned in the hands-on classes. One told another, and before I knew it, it was working and growing”.
Expecting her business to keep delivering positive returns, Dr. Dalis moved her treatment space from her home to her own room in a health clinic. “The room is tiny, and I'm still just getting started, but I'm already making a profit from my work”.
At 43, Dr. Dalis talks about her new stage as an entrepreneur in healthcare “This change is still happening; whether I like it or not, I just finished the program, but the changes are very significant, and the response from the work and the patients is always rewarding”.
She says that one of her main tools for promotion and client acquisition is Instagram, “About 90% of my patients come from social media, so that helps me a lot. It's not easy to start, but you have to persist”.
