The Power of Care Through Aesthetics in Nursing – Meet Alline Colosovski’s Journey

Alline Colosovski always knew she wanted to care for people. Even though her family has no history of health professionals, she says she always found at home a solid foundation of care that stayed with her in her choice of degree and professional path. Today, she cares for people through aesthetics in nursing.

Initially, Alline saw medicine as a way to fulfill, professionally, her longing to care for other people. She took a prep course but didn’t pass the public university entrance exam, at least not for the program she wanted, and even though she passed for Chemical Engineering, that wasn’t her goal.

And it was while reviewing her options that Alline discovered Nursing. She attended two universities to complete her degree, finishing at Anhembi Morumbi, where she was initially a tuition-paying student but became a full scholarship student by providing services to the institution, and she completed that important stage of her education in 2017.

Aesthetics in Nursing as a Possibility

It was only in the last year of her degree that Alline learned about aesthetics as a possibility in nursing. But before specializing in the field, she explored other directions, alternatives that could help her secure her autonomy. She worked with humanized ear piercing and also took a doula course.

Aesthetic health came onto her radar at the end of her degree; the problem is that at the time there were still many doubts about the regulation of aesthetic nursing, whose responsible resolution was the target of different legal proceedings, until Cofen Resolution No. 626 of 2020 was established, giving nurses the proper backing to practice.

About that period of uncertainty, she says:

“I also suffered from all that lack of legal backing, from the difficulty of even finding educational institutions – when I started researching – that offered the course. All of that was part of a very painful journey: getting a place in the market, building a client base, debunking many lies that are told about the work of aesthetic professionals in general.”

Persevering, she adds: “That journey was very emotional, it was a daily challenge, but one we learn to overcome.”

The Desire to Start Her Own Business

Despite her desire to care for people as a health professional, she wasn’t very interested in working in hospital settings. She knew from the start of her journey that she wanted to start her own business, which is also a trait inherited from her family, a very strong entrepreneurial streak. In aesthetics, she could put that predisposition into practice.

Besides the desire to start a business, Alline also highlights her interest in the field as a reflection of the care she already took of herself. In her words:

“And I’m a very vain person, who also understood over the course of life that this issue of beauty, of appearance, of aesthetics, also impacts people’s emotional health. So I really started to see that all the care I was seeking was within aesthetics, where care could be quite integrated between mind and body.”

She also describes how hard the market is for nurses who want to enter the clinical care field – very selective and poorly paid, in Alline’s experience, for those just starting out.

In that scenario, the will to make it work was strong, so Alline set out to find what she needed to learn, what skills she should develop and, for that, what she would need to study. This care in planning her path and studying the right content and skills in the Postgraduate Program gave her the confidence she needed to practice responsibly and stand out in aesthetic nursing.

Aesthetic Nurse and Health Educator

In fact, Alline found no difficulty or resistance from her patients about being able, as a nurse, to work in aesthetics. In other words, what was once an obstacle, due to questions about the competencies of nurses as a class, did not prove to be a problem in her daily contact with patients, who recognize the capability of nursing professionals.

Even so, if questions come up, Alline is prepared to provide the answers, positioning herself as a health educator within her office. After all, the aesthetic nurse has an integrated view within her practice, which is essential when it comes to health.

The Potential of Aesthetics in Care

This integrative view of aesthetic health emerged while she was still wondering which direction to take and wasn’t sure about pursuing a career in the field. It may seem so far like a logical, linear decision, but the truth is she also questioned the relevance of the field compared with other areas of practice. After all, inside hospitals, nurses can save lives.

Why, then, direct such powerful skills toward aesthetic treatments? Alline found the answer to that question when she gave the field a chance, paying attention to the points that interest her most, which have already been mentioned here: the desire to care, the self-care she already practiced through aesthetics, the goal of starting her own business.

Alline shows the strength of nurses and how their training has a solid scientific foundation to work on different fronts of health care. Today, she sees the great potential that this foundation also offers in aesthetic health.

And she has no regrets about dedicating time and resources to her decision. Because today, she sees in her office how aesthetic change affects people’s health:

“All my patients teach me so much, I realize how much this external care is linked to quality of life, to health, to the psychological side, how patients leave the office smiling, happier and more upbeat, confident. And all of that is health, I had an expansion of what I considered health.”

The aesthetic professional who deals with health in an integrative way sees the patient as a whole, and can help with support, even for concerns they can’t resolve, and refer or recommend another professional or possible treatment, as their competencies allow.

Today, as an aesthetic nurse, Alline sees much more fully the potential that aesthetic and integrative health professionals have, including the ability to help resolve other issues, far beyond strictly performing aesthetic procedures.
