When the Aesthetic Biologist, Dr. Fernanda Costa da Cruz, from Rio de Janeiro, graduated in 2019, she found a sluggish job market. Now she has reason to celebrate a major professional transformation, but through Aesthetic Biology.
The biologist invested in one of the most promising fields, and as soon as aesthetics entered her life, she finally found her professional motivation.
This became possible once the Federal Council of Biology – CFBio (Brazilian professional council) regulated Resolution No. 582/2020. Now she can dream again of an outstanding career. “I fell in love,” she said. “Biologists have a solid foundation for this, and the specialization complements what is needed,” she said.
Find out how Dr. Fernanda became an Aesthetic Biologist in this success story, and invested in Aesthetic Biology to achieve her goals.
Why did she become an Aesthetic Biologist?
Before becoming an Aesthetic Biologist, Dr. Fernanda was frustrated by her expectations for a career in biology. She couldn't find opportunities in the market, even though her field of training is broad, whether in classrooms, research, or even laboratories.
The difficulties grew with the start of the pandemic and the world became chaotic. What was already hard got worse. Especially in terms of the job market for biologists, who, like her, such as Dr. Adriana, an Aesthetic Nurse, also had to reinvent themselves professionally to overcome Covid-19.
How did she become an Aesthetic Biologist?
Although it was a tense time, the Aesthetic Biologist discovered the aesthetics field through a dental surgeon who performs HOF (Orofacial Harmonization) at her clinic.
The routine of hands-on practice with aesthetic procedures that Dr. Fernanda experienced was the trigger that awakened her passion for one of the biggest markets in the world, and hope for a new field that guarantees professional success was born in her heart.
Despite the daily inspiration, the biologist had no way to specialize. That is because, with her degree, she couldn't work in the field of aesthetics.
She even considered getting a new degree in biomedicine, to specialize and become an Aesthetic Biomedical Professional. Other biologists also considered this option, such as Dr. Fabíola, for example. “Since I liked aesthetics, I wanted to go to a college that would let me work with it,” she said.
Aesthetic Biology arrived
The future didn't take long to arrive, and biologists were able to specialize in Aesthetic Biology, with the Federal Council of Biology's decision in 2020.
For the Aesthetic Biologist, the regulation changed her life, since she can have new possibilities and opportunities that only aesthetics offers.
Despite her happiness, it took her a year to actually complete her specialization in the field. Doubts and questions stayed on her mind during that time because, according to her, the Council needed to give assurance about the decision, without altering or adding any rule to the regulation.
“I was very happy when it was approved, but also a little insecure at that time,” she said. “After a year, I saw that it was approved for biologists, who are firmly established in the market,” she stated.
Aesthetic Biologist: A successful return
The Aesthetic Biologist can dream again of a successful career, one that allows greater achievements, creating her own opportunities and a new professional status.
This is one of her goals but, according to the biologist, besides professional return, she wants to bring about a complete transformation in her patients' lives, promoting health through aesthetics.
“Through my work at the clinic, I got a taste of what it is to give patients their self-esteem back. It's not just treating diseases, because when aesthetics is cared for, self-esteem, mental health, the body and the mind all improve,” she said. “It all works together,” she stated.
Comparing markets
When comparing the biology market with Aesthetic Biology, Dr. Fernanda's answer is precise. For her, the professional return in aesthetics weighs far more than living a life with limitations in her career.
Just to give an idea, the possibility of starting an aesthetics business can bring big results to these professionals' pockets. Depending on the procedure, a biologist can earn more than their monthly salary.
“I advise doing the specialization, because this is the path, the possibility and the door that opens in aesthetics, it is well worth it. I'm very happy to be able to get in and not have to do a new degree to be able to work,” she said.
Being an Aesthetic Biologist is a source of pride for her, as she can finally consider herself a happy person who is fulfilled in her career. “Biologists working in aesthetics is a great achievement, and belonging to this space is rewarding,” she said.
