Aesthetic Biologist Invests in Aesthetics After 10 Years in Rio

After 10 years in the classroom, Aesthetic Biologist Dr. Carolina Sant’anna de Oliveira, from Rio de Janeiro, decided to invest in Aesthetic Biology to enter one of the most powerful markets in the world.

After the Federal Council of Biology – CFBio (Brazilian professional council) regulated Resolution 528/2020, biologists like her, and other specialists, have great professional possibilities.

For her, Aesthetic Biology carries the same weight that Aesthetic Biomedicine had for biomedical professionals. “Our curriculum is similar. We had anatomy, physiology, and other subjects,” she said.

The Path to Becoming an Aesthetic Biologist

The Aesthetic Biologist graduated at 22 and quickly found an opportunity in the job market for her degree. Unlike many biologists who struggle to find a place in this field, she was able to work in it.

And her love for the field has always been the main fuel to keep going on her journey. Today, Dr. Carolina is a biology teacher, and the classroom is where she spends most of her time.

“I started college very early and I even worked in fishing,” she said. “The point is to work with love, since the financial side weighs heavily,” she said.

Biology, an Undervalued Field

According to the Aesthetic Biologist, the field of biology is undervalued, mainly because of low salaries and little visibility, even in academic circles. Professionals may find a job market that is not promising at all and, in many cases, are unable to secure a permanent position.

“Biology in the classroom is not recognized, for example. Our Council fights very little for us and we do not even have a defined salary floor,” she said.

This is also the view of other biologists, who specialized in Aesthetic Biology to find more possibilities in their careers.

The Aesthetic Biologist and the Job Market.

The salary floor, as the Aesthetic Biologist mentioned, is a major source of frustration, in addition to a professional field that limits biologists to little-recognized settings. Aesthetic Biology was her solution to elevate her career.

According to Dr. Carolina, professionals from other areas of biology have started to view the field of aesthetics with great expectations.

“When my Council approved it, I saw a possibility,” she said. “Biologists who like the lab side, with genetics, microbiology, and clinical analysis, were able to see it as a possibility. Who knows, maybe other biologists will specialize too?” she reflected.

Her Plans as an Aesthetic Biologist

In Aesthetic Biology, Dr. Carolina has big plans. Although she has not yet left the classroom to finish her specialization, she also wants to invest in the academic side of aesthetics, to keep building her qualifications and develop her own protocols.  “I want to teach in this aesthetic field,” she said.

In addition, the Aesthetic Biologist also wants to win an even bigger share of the job market and stand out as an entrepreneur in aesthetics. “I plan to open my own clinic,” she said.
