Professional fulfillment is indeed one of the reasons this aesthetic nurse from Catanduva highlights when she talks about her career, but her decision to leave the routine of hospital shifts to dedicate herself to aesthetics involved an even broader context.
Wellen Becker worked for 15 years in hospital nursing, providing care and doing audits at health clinics and at the UPA (urgent care unit), and already wanted to move into aesthetics, but says she lacked the courage.
After all, it’s a big change: leaving the routine of shifts that was already so familiar, devoting herself to studying a new field, and still having to balance all of that with motherhood. She says the circumstances were decisive in finding the courage she was missing.
The Courage of the Aesthetic Nurse from Catanduva to Change Fields
In 2021, while pregnant with one of her children, there was concern about covid-19. In particular, the fear of going back to working in patient care under those conditions. She says:
“I lacked the courage to change fields, because today I work in patient care, in urgent care, in the emergency room. It’s a pretty radical change, right? Going from taking care of illness to taking care of beauty.”
So what had until then been a more distant career possibility, Wellen finally considered, and decided: aesthetics became a tangible opportunity in her life. She then decided to enroll in the Aesthetic Nursing Postgraduate Program.
Combining Motherhood and Postgraduate Study
She already knew, however, that it wouldn’t be easy to stick to her decision, and she shares a bit about her experiences as a mother while studying the program content:
“I watched the theory classes while breastfeeding my baby and trying to get him to sleep so I could pay attention to the classes. Then afterward I had to rewatch the class to catch the details I had missed… That was good, because it made me study everything again.”
Here it’s worth remembering what the hybrid in-person model makes possible. The theoretical content is studied remotely, with live and recorded classes. At the end of each theory module, you can schedule your clinical immersions. This way, the model gives you the chance to complete the specialization according to your own routine and pace.
During the practical sessions in the clinical immersions, she also says that her family’s support was essential. With young children and the need to travel to another city for the practical sessions, the aesthetic nurse from Catanduva brought her partner and children along to every clinical immersion.
A Sense of Duty Fulfilled
It took work, and not a little, but Wellen is now in the final stages of the postgraduate program. Together with her sister, she already has a space to work in, the Reinvent Estética.
About this great achievement, her words are: “It wasn’t easy, but now that it’s nearly over, I feel that sense of having done what I set out to do, that it worked out. Now it’s just a matter of investing in my career, promoting our space, and reaping the rewards of this effort.”
Combining Efforts in Pursuit of a Calmer Future
Wellen continues to work hospital shifts, but she feels confident performing some procedures at the clinic. Meanwhile, her sister, who has an aesthetician course, performs procedures such as shaping and relaxing massage, lymphatic drainage, facials, and waxing.
“Besides the financial side and the routine, which is much less demanding in aesthetics, working in aesthetics I can also spend more time with my kids, right?”.
With all this dedication, the clinic certainly has everything it needs to grow more every day, making possible, in addition to an excellent financial return and professional fulfillment, the most important thing for this aesthetic nurse from Catanduva: with a calmer routine, she will finally have more time for her children.
