Aesthetic Nurse: “I worked in a hospital for a long time and saw that my routine was draining”

Aesthetic nurse Luan Brenner was working in a surgical setting when he noticed that health can go beyond illness. For him, the topic should also include people's self-esteem and happiness, as happened when patients underwent plastic surgery.

Curious, Brenner had the idea of digging deeper into the subject. Would his profession allow him to work in aesthetics? How? What would he need to work with the other side of health, the one that isn't illness? That is how he found the postgraduate program in aesthetic nursing.

The story below is a brief snapshot of how aesthetic nurse Luan Brenner made his choice. He had a great experience in surgical centers but saw that his routine was too intense, which motivated him to decide to move into the aesthetic field. Find out more!

Nurse Luan Brenner

He holds a bachelor's degree in nursing. Right after graduating, he began working in a very interesting but stressful field: surgical centers.

“I worked in a hospital for a long time and saw that my routine was draining and intense. I dealt with illness a lot.” Even so, he says he gained good experience going through several specialties, such as gastroenterology, proctology, urology, and so on.

But one of them caught his attention: plastic surgery. “In plastics you could see the person come out totally renewed. They went in with one body and came out with another. That made me curious, especially after the surgery”.

The move to aesthetic nursing

In this search for a happier and more motivating version than what happens in the treatment of illness, Luan noticed that health was also on the other side: aesthetics. “I went into aesthetics precisely because I was looking for self-esteem”.

When talking about the subject, he says that prejudice is still everywhere. He explains it this way: “When we talk about health, there is a tendency to think about what relates to illness, but it's not just that. Health is also self-esteem”.

And he adds: “So when I started moving more toward the aesthetics side, I saw that it was possible to improve patients' quality of life. And that it was possible for them to leave an appointment with their self-esteem lifted”.

Choosing the specialization

Brenner is the kind of professional who is not satisfied with a quick Google search. He goes beyond that. That is why, before starting his specialization course in aesthetic nursing, he searched extensively among the institutions and options on the market.

“Before joining Nepuga, I confess I did a lot of research looking for the best teaching methods, duration, and cost-benefit. So I researched everything online and used Instagram, because you see the feedback from people who have graduated or not”.

Through these steps, the nurse got in touch with Nepuga graduates and received a great recommendation. “I ended up joining Nepuga because of that.” He says he had taken standalone courses but still did not have the specialist title.

What matters in a postgraduate program

After the standalone courses and the online research, the aesthetic nurse reached a conclusion about where he would do his specialization in the aesthetic field. This section shows the main points Brenner considered at the end of this process. He listed 3, check them out!

1 – Access

“I chose Nepuga because of the ease of access. I could fit it around my shifts. And that allowed me to do this postgraduate program.” The postgraduate program is hybrid: the theory classes are online, followed by clinical immersions with hands-on practice.

2 – Teaching method

“Besides the teaching method, which is very hands-on. You experience it all in full. So you learn the content at home, working and taking the classes online.” He mentions the example of the PugaCodemethod, developed by Ana Carolina Puga.

3 – Immersion

“And on top of all that, we also have the clinical immersion, which is the hands-on experience of it all”. The nurse says he worked with a plastic surgeon, which gave him hands-on clinical experience in aesthetics, and this was reinforced by the practice offered by Nepuga.

The future of the aesthetic nurse

Luan Brenner says he moved to a new city not long ago. Still, he already has a good plan for what his future could be. “I'm networking, I did market research and saw what offers me the most in the field”.

The aesthetic nurse's next step is to start his own business. “Right now I'm working on that because I plan to open my own space. And I'm going to keep going with it.” To make that happen, he began studying from college, through market research. Check it out!

“The market research was during my undergraduate degree. I had a course that made that possible. I research every field of aesthetics. Then I look at what each service offers me, looking for something that sets me apart. I focus on what I do differently”.

In other words: “That's how I plan to work, because I'm not like everyone else and I can attract clients to my practice and my clinic”.
