Thinking about what she could do outside the clinical-hospital environment, she decided to specialize in aesthetics and “combine business with pleasure” – her name is Jane Ferreira Costa, she lives in Barretos, and she is 38 years old. A nurse, Jane graduated in 2008, worked in the field for more than 10 years, and, after having her son, says she did not want to go back to the hospital.
“Combining business with pleasure” may be a common phrase, but if we stop to think about it, it fits the reality of professionals who choose aesthetics as their field quite well.
Jane, for example, was not working and, since she valued taking care of herself through aesthetic procedures and no longer saw herself working in a hospital setting, specializing in aesthetics was a choice that truly combined a professional need with a personal affinity.
Jane says she learned about the possibility of working in aesthetics only recently. Seeing several professionals perform aesthetic procedures, she went to the nursing council to check whether she could also do so, and thus discovered that yes, it was a tangible possibility.
But before choosing aesthetics, she devoted herself deeply to hospital nursing. Over 13 years, she worked as a care nurse, in the ICU and the emergency room. With that firsthand experience, she set a goal:
“It's a very tiring, stressful, exhausting life, you set your family aside a bit, and I needed to do something where I could set my own hours.”
The solution was to specialize in aesthetics
And it was from that realization that, already liking aesthetic procedures a lot and studying them, understanding a bit of the subject, she sought more information from the council and, researching, found a postgraduate program she could take near her city.
Interviewed during her first clinical immersion, in Ribeirão Preto, Jane says she has really enjoyed the theory classes and, with the hands-on practice in the clinical immersion, has gained confidence to work in the very near future.
She plans to open her own clinic and work with invasive procedures and body treatments. She says what she likes most is the results in the facial area, the quick renewal of the patient's face, and therefore the great potential for satisfaction with the results that the aesthetic health professional can provide.
Beyond the results, she also highlights the financial aspect, noting that there is no comparison between aesthetics and other areas relevant to nurses because, as she sees it, it is a field that is growing a lot and has work for everyone who commits to specializing as best they can.
“Nursing is a very beautiful profession. But poorly paid”, reflects the nurse who decided to specialize in aesthetics.
It is low pay compared with the amount of work, over a period that deprives you of contact with family and self-care. It is a frequent perception among health professionals, especially nurses.
It was one of the main triggers for Jane to choose to specialize in aesthetics, which today opens a door to new possibilities in her life. A reality is approaching in which it is possible to control your own schedule and devote your time to what truly matters, all thanks to the appreciation of care through aesthetic and integrative health, the field capable of truly combining business with pleasure.
