As a former professional esports player, I embarked on a new journey to turn my gamer skills into IT soft skills in the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) of a renowned Higher Education Institution (HEI). And without a doubt, being part of the Nepuga team has been an incredible experience.
Since joining the team, I have been challenged and encouraged to apply my gamer skills in a corporate IT environment. The transition was smooth, as many of the skills I developed as a professional player proved transferable to the world of information technology. For example, the ability to make quick, strategic decisions during an esports match also applies to solving complex problems and making decisions in IT projects.
My fellow IT team members, such as developers, designers, and audiovisual editors, along with several colleagues from other departments, and I work on state-of-the-art machines with NVIDIA RTX-2060 to RTX-3060 graphics cards, monitors, keyboards, mice, and gaming headsets, and on some occasions we get together and play several matches of LOL, Valorant, WOW, and more.
In addition, the teamwork mindset and effective communication, which are essential for success in esports, are also valuable skills in an IT environment. Working on team projects, collaborating with colleagues from different areas, and sharing knowledge are common practices in my day-to-day at Nepuga/FAPUGA, and I feel that my experience as a professional player gave me a significant advantage in these areas.
Another aspect that impressed me at Nepuga is the inclusive and welcoming work environment. My teammates are dedicated, passionate, and highly qualified, and I feel valued as a fundamental part of the team. The company has an organizational culture that encourages continuous learning, providing training and development opportunities, which allows me to further improve my IT skills and stay up to date with the latest industry trends.
