“I Love This Universe and Saw That I Could Be Happy in My Profession,” Says Aesthetics Pharmacist

I'm sure you will relate to the journey of this pharmacist specializing in aesthetics. As she recaps her professional and educational history, she sees a clear career evolution.

Her name is Mariana Marçon, and the start of her professional training took uncertain steps, as is common. After all, there are many possibilities in front of someone who is starting to look for a field that suits them, on top of the challenge of finding a well-paid profession.

Researching undergraduate options, aesthetics seemed like a good choice right away, but she says that the work available at the time for that training did not match her interests. So she took entrance exams for different fields and ended up choosing pharmacy.

In pharmacy, she explains, her interest was in working in the cosmetics industry. Since she had always enjoyed taking care of herself, devoting herself to this training seemed to make sense.

But opportunities led Mariana to work at an ophthalmology hospital, where she learned a lot. Her ambitions were even greater, though, so she decided to research training again, this time within the skills she already had, learning about specialization options for pharmacy graduates.

That research led to a reunion with what she had wanted from the start of her search, and she discovered she could pursue a postgraduate program in Aesthetic Pharmacy, the perfect specialization to reach her goals, in Mariana's words:

“I love this universe and saw that I could be happy in my profession!”

Asked what fulfills her most professionally, the aesthetic pharmacist says: “It's doing something I love, that makes me feel good. Caring for others, connecting, exchanging experiences, and motivating/helping many people to come into aesthetics too. Today, I'm fulfilled professionally and I love what I do. And every day what motivates me is knowing that someone is waiting for me to make a dream come true and that I get to be part of it. It's seeing that they trust my work and that I dedicate myself a lot to it.”

Pharmacist specializing in aesthetics, and entrepreneur

She completed her aesthetics postgraduate program in 2019, and the following year she started seeing patients. She says it wasn't easy to start a business, but she had the courage to leave her old job and rented her first office in that context.

It was very challenging. Both to start a business and to be an excellent aesthetics professional, constant practice, research, and updating are needed. Mariana knew this and, faced with difficulties and challenges, she kept taking courses, attending conferences, and working to improve in every way within her reach.

Today, she says she sees herself as a different professional: “I think it's very important in this field for professionals to always keep up to date and seek more and more training; it goes beyond aesthetics, we work with health and with great responsibility. It will be 3 years in September since I started seeing patients, and today I see a different Mariana.”

Overcoming challenges

Topics such as pricing and entrepreneurship were covered in the courses she took, but know-how is gained through experience, by going out and chasing it. That is why, besides the specific aesthetics courses, she also reports a lot of study devoted to marketing, professional demeanor, and positioning. YouTube channels and online course platforms helped her in this regard.

On finding patients, Mariana is happy to point out that most of her patients have been with her since the beginning and refer many others to her.

Digital media are a great opportunity to find new patients and show your work, which has become a great tool, as well as a portfolio in which the pharmacist can see her professional growth.

On her Instagram profile, she also posts informative content about the procedures she offers, which are mainly facial and body harmonization, trichology, and PEIM.

Slowly but surely

Currently, her treatment space is in a building that also houses professionals from other fields. But the pharmacist specializing in aesthetics aims to have her own space, have more professionals working alongside her, and be able to help more and more people.

Goals she will surely achieve the same way she has always made her accomplishments: one step at a time. So we close with Mariana's own words about her process and growth:

“I climbed the steps slowly and I'm still doing so. We should always take one step at a time and not try to skip stages. Never compare ourselves with anyone and always do our best in every appointment.”
