Dr. Luana Lopes already knows her future is in treating patients as an aesthetic pharmacist. But until she can leave her current job at a drugstore for good, for now she is balancing two jobs, always dreaming of the future.
“I enrolled in early 2020 and had three months of in-person classes; then, with the pandemic, all teaching moved online. For me, the suspension of hands-on practice was discouraging, but it was temporary, because hands-on practice soon resumed and we were able to complete the specialization,” explains Dr. Luana.
Dr. Luana says that study partnerships made a difference and had a direct impact on her professional future.
“I met a biomedical professional, a fellow postgraduate student, in the job market. I needed internship hours and talked to her, and after interning with her, I was invited to become her partner. Today I am already practicing with her, and I plan to dedicate myself exclusively to aesthetic pharmacy soon,” she explains.
Aesthetic pharmacist Dr. Luana found her professional path
The aesthetic pharmacist says she completed a postgraduate program in Hospital Clinical Pharmacy in 2018, but realized it was not what she wanted for her future.
“I saw that it was not for me; I had not found myself yet. Working in a drugstore and in a hospital was not what I wanted for the rest of my life. That is when the specialization in aesthetic pharmacy came up, which could give me flexible work hours, geographic freedom, and financial freedom too. When I realized that aesthetics was what I wanted, I dove in headfirst,” says Dr. Luana.
Already working on her personal marketing, the aesthetic pharmacist Dr. Luana says she sees patients on Ilha do Governador, in Rio de Janeiro. She says she identified most with facial procedures and that Facial Harmonization is her focus.
“I left the course and started applying intradermotherapy and skinbooster; I have already taken courses in fillers and toxin. And what keeps me at the drugstore job is that I want to improve my skills even more, until I have a steady schedule of patients.”
To fellow professionals who have not yet enrolled in a specialization and think the pandemic may be an obstacle to starting their studies, she assures:
“I would start the course again, even during a pandemic, because the results show up and they are priceless,” she stresses.
