Inspired by Her Grandfather's Memory, Aesthetic Pharmacist Wants to Become a Great Entrepreneur

In our lives, many people become references for our attitudes, dreams, or desires. This time, our interviewee has had a significant influence since childhood. Jamile Machado, a native of Porto Seguro, has been involved with drugstores all her life because of her maternal grandfather. In the second-to-last year of her degree, Jamile had to say goodbye to her grandfather and thought about dropping the program. She persisted, and, inspired by her grandfather's memory, the aesthetic pharmacist wants to become a great entrepreneur and follow in his footsteps.

Growing up immersed in the drugstore environment, Jamile developed her passion for pharmacy at a very young age, mainly because of the range of opportunities the profession offers.

The hardest moment for her was truly having to finish her degree without her grandfather's presence. But her family's support, especially her parents', was crucial for her to keep studying.

Now a pharmacy graduate, Jamile wants to follow her grandfather's footsteps as an entrepreneur and is pursuing her specialization in aesthetic pharmacy, continuing her studies to make her family proud and prove she is capable of achieving her goals.

This whole specialization process has been a challenge for her, as she set out to face her fears and grow professionally and personally. She acknowledges the difficulties of earning the aesthetic pharmacist certificate, but her grit and determination overcome adversity, and she proves to herself and to the world that nothing can stop a dream.

The Pain of Saying Goodbye to Her Grandfather and Her Family's Support to Finish Her Degree

Jamile Machado is from the state of Bahia, born in the city of Porto Seguro, and carries with her a contagious joy, an exceptional trait for someone who intends to work with the public. It's no coincidence that she chose a profession that deals directly with people and goes beyond that, caring for each person's health. A Pharmacy graduate in 2020, Jamile shared with us a story full of affection and pride in her history and her family.

She says that since childhood she has been immersed in the world of pharmacy. Her paternal grandfather owned drugstores, and while still very young she already visited the place to be with her grandfather, who was one of the great references in her life.

It was even through her grandfather's influence that she learned more about pharmacy and, each day, fell more in love with the profession. Since she always identified with caring for people, being able to contribute to their health and happiness was extremely rewarding, and seeing her grandfather make that possible for patients captivated her to pursue a career in pharmacy. Jamile developed a strong affinity for the profession when she realized there were many opportunities within this career.

With the idea of becoming a pharmacist, Jamile enrolled in the degree program. There were years of hard study and dedication, until in 2019 she unfortunately had to say goodbye to her grandfather, who passed away that year. It was one of the most challenging moments of her life, when she even considered dropping out. But she says the unconditional support of her parents, who were pillars during that time of grief, was extremely important for her to persist and finish her degree.

Overcoming Fears and Moving Forward. Jamile Becomes a Pharmacist

Finding the strength to continue with her family's support, Jamile held her head high and stood firm in pursuit of her Pharmacist diploma. She says that even from a distance, she somehow felt her grandfather's presence and support, as if he were accompanying her wherever she was. So much so that at the end of the program, a moment of great emotion and joy for her friends and relatives, she could feel grateful for everything she had been through and for her parents' partnership, who gave her the strength to keep going and finally bring joy to her grandfather, who from afar was surely very happy about the achievement.

Her grandfather's influence was so important in her formation because it was through spending time and talking with him that she learned values of independence and entrepreneurship. Jamile aspires to have her own business, seeking the freedom to work independently thanks to the moments of learning alongside her grandfather.

“My greatest inspiration for studying pharmacy was my grandfather. He always encouraged me from childhood. I was always immersed in that environment. Unfortunately, in 2019, before I graduated, he passed away. But when I finally graduated and entered the field as a pharmacist, I fell even more in love with it, and I'm very grateful to him for guiding me down this path”.

After finishing college, doubts arose about her professional path. She began her career in drugstores and later moved into compounding, where she stayed for three years, falling in love with the work. Always interested in beauty, cosmetics, and aesthetics, her experience serving the public was challenging, since she realized she wasn't just selling products, but health and self-esteem.

The decision to pursue the aesthetics field was an innovative step for Jamile. First, because to complete another part of the clinical immersions she overcame her fear of flying and left Porto Seguro (BA) for Ribeirão Preto (SP). It was with aesthetics that she discovered new possibilities for practice and focused on her goal of specializing in this field. Although she faced fears and uncertainties, including complications that could occur, Jamile decided to face the challenges, seeking opportunities for learning and growth. That is how the specialization in Aesthetic Pharmacy

came about. It has been overcoming something day by day. Being away from my family, or even flying, which was something I was afraid of. Every experience is valid if you know how to draw learning from it”.

Preparing to deal with self-esteem issues in her patients, Jamile closely follows her professors' guidance. She recognizes the importance of helping people feel comfortable and confident, seeking to provide relief for their emotional symptoms.

“So, aesthetics has been something innovative for me. I discovered areas I never imagined I could work in, but I always wanted to focus on aesthetics, even when I was in compounding, and it's been incredible to discover everything the world of aesthetics offers”.

Jamile plans to gain experience at a clinic to expand her knowledge and opportunities. After completing her clinical practice, she intends to take additional courses and seek mentorship to start her own business with confidence and security. She also described the importance of attending the clinical immersions to master more complex techniques such as injectables and highlighted some new interests such as trichology and carboxytherapy.

“Initially I intend to find an opportunity at a clinic to gain experience, a range of opportunities. And as soon as I finish the practice, take a MasterClass, a mentorship, and start in a correct and safe way”.

Once she gains the necessary experience, Jamile wants to open her own business and offer quality services and exclusive, personalized care to her patients.
