This year, the Nepuga/FAPUGA units in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro took part in the Winter Clothing Drive, encouraging members of our community to show solidarity during a difficult time for people in vulnerable situations who suffer from the low temperatures of winter.
The initiative aims to collect clothing such as pants, T-shirts and, above all, coats, as well as blankets in good condition, which will be donated to families in need.
This year, the drive also includes other items, with the social impact of the pandemic in mind. The collection points also accepted hygiene kits, cleaning products and food, which will be donated to families in need.
The secretary of the Nepuga unit in São Paulo-SP, Reinaldo Mariano, comments on student engagement: “With hybrid learning, students started coming to the unit less often. Still, we could see the commitment of our postgraduate students and even of people who chose to bring donations here because of our location”.
As one of the Red Cross collection points, the institution (IES, a Brazilian higher education institution) began its involvement with the Aquece SP campaign on July 10, 2021, and ended collections last Tuesday, September 14, 2021. “Even with the difficulty of getting around, the students got involved in the campaign and we received many donations. On pickup day we had a full box and the certainty that we helped warm a few more hearts”, Reinaldo says.

In Rio de Janeiro, the participation was in the Salvation Army's Winter Campaign. The “Box of Good” (“Caixa do Bem”), as the organization calls it, was delivered to the unit on June 5, 2021 and is waiting for the donations collected by the end of the campaign to be picked up.
The unit's secretary, Bárbara Orgal, comments on how the drive is going: “The Salvation Army is very well known here in Rio de Janeiro. Our students were surprised when they saw the collection box, and right away several said they would bring donations”.
The organization chosen to coordinate the collection is more than a century old and has an international history, headquartered in London, England, and present in more than 130 countries around the world.
Expressing the institution's values, such as ethics, commitment and transparency, we are proud to have our students' help in spreading the word and donating to the respective organizations. We thank everyone for their effort and hope to contribute more and more to the community in which Nepuga/FAPUGA operates nationwide.
