Postgraduate Program in Aesthetics – Returning Students on the Rise

A survey by the higher education institution (IES) Nepuga/Fapuga shows a 25% increase in demand from former students who had put their postgraduate program in aesthetics on hold in previous years and decided to resume their studies in 2021, now in the hybrid teaching model.

Finances, lack of time, organization, and insecurity about their practice. There are countless factors that cause a postgraduate program to be interrupted.

Generally, professionals seeking a specialization in aesthetics want to change their lives, but change is not always easy. That is because the pandemic context faced by health professionals led many who had put their postgraduate program in aesthetics on hold to resume their studies.

We selected some inspiring stories of people who were also where you may be right now, but fought through their setbacks and today are aesthetics specialists.

Putting a course on hold may be more common than you imagine. The reasons are varied, from financial ones to the hectic routine of someone seeking to specialize to make a life change while still caught in an exhausting work routine.

However, persistence is essential to pursue better professional qualification, finish the postgraduate program, and be a sought-after professional in the market. That is the case of Dr. Felippe Antônio Stopa Abib, from Balneário Camboriú – SC.

Postgraduate program in aesthetics

The Aesthetic Nurse points out that it was not simple to get his certificate amid his hectic routine and that the pause was necessary. “So I finished all of the theory part and put the postgraduate program on hold for about two years,” he says.

Working 88 hours a week split between two hospitals, in 2019 Dr. Felippe needed to complete the internship to finish his studies. However, since there were no opportunities to do so in his city, he had to interrupt his postgraduate program in aesthetics.

The exhausting routine he lived only increased his need to finish the specialization in order to change his life. At the beginning of this year, he moved to Florianópolis, completed the internship last month, and earned his certificate in the postgraduate program in aesthetics.

“I wanted to resume and finish because, first of all, I really like the field of aesthetics; besides, it is a great opportunity to reduce my working hours, have more flexibility and manage my routine better, as well as providing a good financial return,” he explains.

Dr. Neusa Lurdes da Rosa, from Itaipulândia – PR, is a Nurse and a postgraduate student in Aesthetics. She began her specialization in 2017; however, in 2018 she ran into problems finishing her postgraduate program when it came time to submit the internship reports, just like Dr. Felippe.

Another factor that made her interrupt her studies was a phase of insecurity about which procedures she could perform, a situation the professional class has since overcome. “I thought about giving up, but I decided to stay and keep going,” she says.

It took a little over three years, but Neusa decided to resume her studies and is currently finishing her postgraduate program. “I came back because I think it's very important to have this certification. It was a big investment and I didn't want to lose it. Today I work at a health clinic and have my own practice, Clínica Lótus, where I work with ozone therapy,” she says.

Among her future plans, she aims to have a well-equipped clinic and work only with ozone and injectables.

The best time to do a postgraduate program in aesthetics

You have to find the best time to go back to studying and to specialize. After eight years out of the job market to care for her family, Dr. Carla Alessandra da Conceição, from São Paulo – SP, decided to specialize in Aesthetic Pharmacy after learning about the field through a friend.

“I decided to do the postgraduate program in aesthetics to go back to work and be able to balance it with my personal life,” she says. Currently, Dr. Carla is a pharmacist at a medical supplies distributor. “My plans for the future are to complete the specialization and start my own business, as well as to keep studying and improving my knowledge in the field of aesthetics,” she explains.

Years go by, but the desire to learn and become your best self cannot be left in the past. There will be problems along the way and other priorities, but it is always the right time to invest in yourself, in your professional qualification, and in your future.
