Balancing motherhood, training and a career in integrative health in dentistry

Motherhood, training and professional practice can be very hard parts of life to balance at the same time and a real challenge, especially for women who must handle all these facets while trying to stand out and give their best on each front. Today, she is following a path of success in integrative health in dentistry.

A dentist from the interior of Rondônia, Cibele Capiche, is a mother of two and, because of her dedication to motherhood, started her undergraduate studies at age 29.

Today, she is pursuing more than one specialization and works with sparkle in her eyes in light of her career prospects and goals. Her journey is certainly a breath of inspiration that many people can relate to.

How It All Began

Cibele says dentistry has been a strong presence in her life since childhood. At first, she was very afraid of going to the dentist and of needles, but a pediatric dentist had the sensitivity to help her turn those fears into comfort and admiration for the profession.

Although she is from Jaru (RO), Cibele began her undergraduate studies in the state capital (Porto Velho) at age 29, but had to pause her studies for a while to take care of her health, spending a year away from college and then returning to finally graduate.

She currently works as a general dentist and decided to pursue the postgraduate program in Orofacial and Surgical Harmonization. Cibele points to a special interest in the surgical part of the specialization, which she was exposed to during an advanced course in her undergraduate studies, as well as an interest in different areas of aesthetics.

She sees how promising the market for integrated orofacial harmonization is, and comments: “I believe contact lens rehabilitation and facial rehabilitation with orofacial harmonization have grown a lot and will grow even more, because people like what is beautiful, it attracts the public, both female and male.”

Integrative Health in Dentistry

Based on Cibele's vision of her possibilities in integrative health in dentistry , she will be able to offer her patients more complete treatment. While she is specializing in HOF (orofacial harmonization), she is also specializing in Orthodontics, and the two qualifications complement each other very well. She explains a bit why:

“In orthodontics we study cephalometry, which deals with craniometric points, and in HOF we study the same points. The content complements each other, so I believe one side complements the other, and I want to work with both together.”

In addition, both have functional and aesthetic purposes tied together, and many patients who undergo orthodontic treatment also seek to solve other issues that end up bothering them in parts of the face. Here on the blog we have already covered other dentists who reported noticing this need in their practice.

To effectively accomplish what Cibele has in mind, she is taking an important step toward her career goal, and has just opened her own office.

Her next step is to open her own space, a clinic focused on integrative health in dentistry, as Cibele is specializing to do, and she stresses:

“We cannot look at the patient only by the tooth. We have to check the patient's health, their comorbidities, whether they take any medication, and this benefits my patient, gives them security, and can only improve my work with them and the trust they will place in me.”

To give an example, she imagines an orthodontic situation: if you are going to start orthodontic treatment, it is not right to skip checking whether the patient has cavities or any periodontal issue, and checking these issues as well will lead to treatment that truly addresses that patient's needs.

By being sensitive to the real needs of her patients through integrative health in dentistry, with the love and sparkle in her eyes that Cibele Capiche has for her profession.

She is undoubtedly giving back to the world the same attitude that was shown to her in childhood, and for that reason she will certainly be able to make a positive impact on the lives of many people.
