Breaking free from exhausting shifts is this aesthetic nurse's goal

The aesthetic health market has been growing worldwide. Brazil is no different. With growth projected at approximately 15% between 2022 and 2030, new opportunities are emerging for healthcare professionals. Rejane is a nurse who saw this opportunity and intends to break free from exhausting shifts and pursue a career in aesthetics.

Many of them, dissatisfied with the routine and work environment in hospitals and other care settings, decided to look for new ways to find themselves as professionals. This is the case of Rejane Mauadie. A nurse who worked her whole life in obstetrics, she chose a new path in her healthcare career. With the countless possibilities in aesthetic health, breaking free from exhausting shifts is the goal of this aesthetic nurse who fell in love with the field and intends to focus entirely on her new profession.

Rejane spent her whole life inside hospitals working in obstetrics. The intense daily experience of the hospital environment wore her down and made her rethink her future in healthcare. Now, with the chance to change careers, she is fully focused on the postgraduate program to become an aesthetic nurse and follow a new path in aesthetics.

She chose aesthetics to break free from exhausting shifts

For almost 20 years, Rejane has been a nurse working in obstetrics. She did her residency in 2007, worked in the field for several years, and even completed a master's degree in it, but she was always passionate about aesthetics.

She says that because it was a passion, she always wanted to specialize in aesthetics and work in the field. She also recalls that friendships influenced this choice. Rejane had a friend who also did her postgraduate program at Nepuga, and after getting to know the institution, she felt even more drawn to enroll in the specialization.

“I really wanted to do aesthetics, and that desire only grew over the years. I met a friend who did the specialization here at Nepuga and I decided to enroll in the specialization and I am definitely very satisfied.”

Entering the aesthetics specialization was no accident. Rejane says the life change came from the exhausting routine she had as a nurse working in hospitals. The long shift hours were very draining, and although she could help patients, she saw no other benefits in staying in the profession.

“Autonomy and financial return were influences”

Aesthetics is a passion, as she has already said, but other factors also stand out in her wish to make the switch, including autonomy and financial return.

“Besides really liking it, I believe our autonomy and the financial return weigh heavily when choosing to continue in aesthetics.”

Rejane's wish is that with the specialization she can finally have more quality time in her life. She still works in hospitals in emergency care, and the tiring, intense day-to-day in that sector has made her even more eager to finish the postgraduate program.

She says the routine of working shifts is draining and the many hours of work have not been beneficial.

“Today I still work in emergency care. My routine is on-call shifts, so it is 12-hour shifts followed by 60 hours off, and it is very tiring. In aesthetics, on the other hand, I have the possibility of being autonomous and having freedom with more flexible hours.

Rejane compares nursing and aesthetics, and for her the two fields are very close to each other. Caring for others, dedication, and attention are characteristics both fields share.

“When we compare the two fields, saying that nursing is the art of caring, aesthetics follows the same line of reasoning. Aesthetics is that: caring for others.”

Once she finishes the postgraduate program, Rejane wants to focus fully on aesthetics. Opening her own space and having the freedom to choose her hours is a dream the professional hopes to achieve.

“When I finish my postgraduate program I already plan to work in the field. I haven't had the chance to perform aesthetic procedures yet, but I am eager to complete this whole project and definitely open my own practice.”

The region drives aesthetic treatments

Rejane plans to offer care focused on the body area. She, who will balance appointments between her shifts and the clinic, understands that the Rio de Janeiro market is very good and has great potential for growth; after all, according to her, people from Rio are very vain.

“The market is good, people from Rio are very vain. The market is promising. I like the body area, and since it is a beach region, people are concerned about their buttocks, abdomen, gaining body mass, so as soon as possible I plan to dive headfirst into this very rewarding universe of aesthetics.”
