Dr. Guilherme Telles says that since childhood his dream was to become a biologist and an airplane pilot. The same dreams don't always stay with us into adulthood, but, very determined, Guilherme managed to achieve his childhood dreams and, by becoming an Aesthetic Biologist, gave those dreams an upgrade he had never envisioned as a possibility.
Anyone who visits the page for the 2022 Academic Excellence Award will see the biologist featured. Dr. Guilherme Telles took first place in this award and also won two other categories, “High Performance Development” and “Influencer's Choice: #PugaFollowers”.
All the success recognized for his dedication is part of a journey that deserves to be told.
Between aviation and biology, biology came first. In that field, Guilherme dedicated himself to academic life beyond the curriculum alone, also committing to undergraduate research. So much so that he earned a fellowship at Fiocruz in Minas Gerais. And, after graduating, he even began a master's degree at UFRGS.
At that time, the dream of aviation spoke louder, and that was when Guilherme decided to pause his master's degree to dedicate himself to his second – but no less important – dream. At last, he truly became both a biologist and an airplane pilot.
Amid so much dedication to fulfilling his professional dreams, where does Aesthetic Biology come in?
Dr. Guilherme says that it was actually a bad situation that led him to pay more attention to the field of aesthetics, when his partner underwent some procedures that, due to professional error, unfortunately resulted in lip ptosis, and worst of all, without proper support in the face of the complication.
But in that moment of adversity, the way the biologist found to help his boyfriend was through information, seeking to understand what had happened.
And, amid research on aesthetic procedures, came the discovery of the aesthetics specialty within biology. He also learned of the entire struggle led by Dr. Ana Carolina Puga to achieve recognition and regulation of aesthetics as a possible specialty in several health fields.
By becoming an Aesthetic Biologist, Dr. Guilherme could offer treatment very different from how someone so important to him had been treated.
The Dedication to Becoming an Aesthetic Biologist
Aviation was then a passion in his life, but he ended up discovering in Aesthetic Biology something he describes as an even more solid feeling:
“As time went by, and especially once I started the hands-on classes, all the interest I was developing in aesthetics turned into love, and that love turned more and more into dedication and interest.”
Very dedicated to his profession and, therefore, to his studies, Dr. Guilherme made the most of the Postgraduate Program in Aesthetic Biology. In every class and clinical immersion, with every topic and model patient, he found even more interest and enjoyment in the specialty.
He tells a bit more about his experience, revealing how he was able to make the best of it:
“When it comes to the hands-on classes, I always tried to absorb as much content as possible from the professors, tips on all kinds of subjects, from procedures to how to deal with patients, and I believe my maturity and easygoing nature made everything work out.”
Drawing on that maturity and focused effort, Dr. Guilherme is now able to deliver incredible results through his work in aesthetics. And while contributing to the well-being of many patients, his story is that of a professional who, by becoming a biologist, also became a more dreamy person and far more confident in his own potential.
