Since March 2020, Nepuga/FAPUGA postgraduate programs have been running in a hybrid model.
In this methodology, theory classes are delivered through the online platform, either in EAD (asynchronous) or LIVE (synchronous) format. This way, all the theory portion of the postgraduate program can be accessed in the student portal.
Hands-on classes, that is, the clinical immersion of the specialization, take place in person. To attend these classes, you must book in advance at a clinic or campus that is most convenient for the postgraduate student.
With student capacity reduced in line with covid-19 health protocols set by each city's municipal decree, the Registrar's and Academic departments joined forces to design the best solution.
This way, booking hands-on classes ensures control of physical capacity, guaranteeing the biosafety of the facilities. With advance booking, students also have the freedom to choose which date and location they prefer for their activities.
Which Units Are Open for Booking?
So far, the teaching clinics available for hands-on practice are located in the main capitals of each state served by Nepuga/FAPUGA. See below:
- GOIÂNIA / GO – OPEN
- FLORIANÓPOLIS / SC – OPEN
- SÃO PAULO / SP – OPEN
- RIO DE JANEIRO / RJ – OPEN
- SALVADOR / BA – OPEN
- BELO HORIZONTE / MG – OPEN
- CAMPINAS / SP – OPEN
- PORTO ALEGRE / RS – OPEN
- CURITIBA / PR – OPEN
In response to students' requests and demands, in the second half of September, more spots were opened for booking hands-on classes, at students' request.
In addition, Nepuga's Development team has been working on creating a new booking system for hands-on classes, to fix the bugs and issues of the current tool. The new format should go live in January 2022.
How Does Booking Hands-On Classes Work?
To help our students with booking inside the portal, we created an exclusive tutorial showing the step-by-step process to access it, click here and check it out.
If you still have questions, we've answered students' main questions below:
- After the 2nd course, you will take the assessment, and if you pass, the button to book hands-on classes will become available to you. Remember that your course must be COMPLETED and PASSED with a minimum grade of 7.0 (seven).
- Hands-on classes are held Wednesday through Sunday*, starting at 8:00 a.m. and ending at 6:00 p.m. (*may vary by unit)
- On class day, some items are mandatory and individual, namely: a double-layer cloth mask or N95 hospital mask; and clear hospital-grade protective goggles.
The Campus Closest to Me Isn't Open. What Should I Do?
It's important to note that, as provided in a contractual clause and under the guidance of the enrollment department, the Nepuga/FAPUGA postgraduate program does not tie the contracting student to a specific unit.
That's because, since the institution (IES) has units and campuses in several cities and capitals across Brazil, we offer our postgraduate students the possibility of specializing and taking hands-on classes at the location of their choice.
However, whether these activities take place depends on the municipality's clearance, booking availability, and the minimum quorum at the chosen campus or clinic. Therefore, we recommend that students book hands-on classes as made available in the portal, checking the nearest unit with available booking.
Hybrid Learning and Hands-On Class Booking Improve the Student Experience
Many students in the Nepuga/FAPUGA postgraduate program are choosing to do the hands-on classes after completing all the theory modules. This way, it's possible to avoid travel costs and time away from family.
Although the adjustment was challenging at first, many ended up surprised by how practical it is. “Booking the hands-on classes made things easier for students in general, because they have the support of the physical unit where they can study, plus the freedom to choose the day they want to take the classes, which is much better than having specific days scheduled”, explains Reinaldo Mariano, Secretary of the São Paulo Unit.
Many accounts have reached the institution, including that of Dr. Vanessa Rodrigues, a student in the postgraduate program in aesthetic biology. “Look, for me hybrid learning was the best thing that ever happened, because I have a two-year-old son and not having to travel to take the theory classes is great, because I can plan better and spend less. I only had to travel for the hands-on classes, and I found that excellent because this part of aesthetics needs practice, right? You need that clinical immersion. Maybe if it weren't hybrid I wouldn't have been able to achieve this dream”, she says.
