After running her own pharmacy for 17 years and living through an exhausting routine, aesthetic pharmacist Dr. Neife Ferreira Marques decided she needed to reinvent herself and change her professional life.
She sold the pharmacy and, after some time to reflect, opened a laser hair removal clinic, but as the years went by she realized her clients were looking for more procedures.
“Since my specialization in cosmetology allowed me to prescribe active ingredients and compound formulas, I made many recommendations to patients, but I began to realize I was letting time pass and that I needed to go after the specialization”, said Dr. Neife.
Aesthetics
The pharmacist sought in aesthetics a lighter way of working, along with autonomy and the satisfaction of helping her patients regain their self-esteem.
“After I sold the pharmacy, I spent two years not knowing whether I would return to the market. But I saw colleagues around me investing in aesthetics, and it was a very different life from the one I had professionally, and that caught my attention”, she says.
Tentatively, she began offering prescriptions of some drugs related to her cosmetology knowledge to her laser hair removal patients.
The aesthetic pharmacist noticed her clients' wishes and saw there was a market she could enter
“But my clients always asked whether I didn't perform a certain procedure, usually injectables, so I gradually realized that the specialization was more and more necessary. Until I decided to do it,” explains Dr. Neife.
The chance to specialize in 11 months was fundamental for the aesthetic pharmacist, because alongside the course she organized the physical side of her business. Since she got back the old building where the pharmacy she had already sold used to operate, Dr. Neife decided to renovate. She is reconfiguring the space to hold a clinic with 3 rooms.
“In the future I intend to see whether I will form work partnerships, whether we will hire a secretary, and I want to start this new stage”, the pharmacist explains.
For those thinking about entering the field, Dr. Neife points out:
“I believe a person has to try to understand what they like to do and keep experimenting. I, for example, started with acupuncture, it wasn't quite what I expected, I moved into the aesthetics field, and that way you become able to understand whether you are compatible with this field,” she emphasizes. At first, Dr. Neife says she will focus her practice on facial and body harmonization and, later, ozone therapy.
