Who has been missing in-person classes? For now, teaching at FAPUGA is still online and follows all the rules in place to contain the spread of the coronavirus. However, on November 29, the Marketing and IT Applied to Business professor, Rogério Matofino, invited students to an in-person class at Fapuga on Personal Marketing and Canvas.
“The in-person class experience is incomparably better than any remote experience. There is a lot of exchange, students participate more actively, I can see their expressions; online, a student turns off the camera and that doesn't mean they are in front of the computer, but in person there is no escaping. It is four hours of class, and in person those hours flew by without us even noticing,” says the professor.
See what the experience was like with the students and the return, even if just for one day, to the classroom.
Receptiveness in the In-Person Class at Fapuga
All students in the Business Administration and Hospital Management programs attended the class, and according to Rogério, the class was eager and receptive for this moment.
“The students' receptiveness in the in-person class at Fapuga was absolute; on a scale of 0 to 10, it was an 11! They arrived on time, excited about the hands-on work and about testing tools that would bring direct benefits to everyone, such as getting a promotion at work or even changing jobs; some students are thinking about opening their own HR consultancy or clinic, and all of them are looking forward to returning to in-person classes,” says the professor.
Expectations were indeed high, especially about getting to know the tool they would learn that day, which will contribute effectively to each person's professional growth.
In addition, the work done in class would earn an extra point on each student's final grade average, which motivated every student in the room even more.
Canvas and Personal Marketing in the In-Person Class at Fapuga
The main task assigned by the professor was to build a Canvas according to each professional's current work or the work they wish to do.
Canvas is one of the most important and most widely used tools for strategic management of your own business or of the work you do in a company. It can be applied in several areas, such as Human Resources, Marketing, and Finance.
As for personal marketing, some students still did not know exactly which career to pursue or how to position themselves in the job market.
The professor of the in-person class at Fapuga says that, for this, they worked on reviewing résumés and LinkedIn profiles, and this approach was essential for clarifying the students' ideas.
“It even happened that a student who had worked her whole life in administration then decided to switch to hospital management. So, in the hands-on class we had, it was possible to answer her questions and help her decide how to build her résumé and LinkedIn in the best way and present herself directly to the job market, well positioned and determined,” he adds.

The In-Person Class at Fapuga Will Take Place in 2022
And, of course, having felt how productive studying in the classroom is, both the students and the professor are eager for a return to in-person teaching.
But everyone understands that hybrid teaching is still the most advisable, given the digital tools available, as well as waiting for the pandemic to end.
In addition, Rogério says he comes from the world of business and, for that reason, he points out that the in-person class at Fapuga will always be necessary for students to truly learn to get their hands dirty and be prepared for the job market. In fact, each piece of content applied asks students to supplement their information with other professors to fill every gap, until the student becomes a well-rounded professional.
“You can give an extremely theoretical class or an extremely practical one. In this in-person class I started with bibliographic references, we made a checklist, I brought some books from the FAPUGA library that the students already knew, I presented a problem in context through PowerPoint to give it meaning and significance, and then, hands-on work. And just as it went in the classroom, it would be the same in a consultancy, multinational companies, industries, in short, it would be the same methodology and approach used in class. And that is interesting, because the students live the laboratory experience,” the professor concludes.
