After many years of working double shifts and holidays away from her family, Aesthetic Nurse Dr. Juliana Alves, from Rio de Janeiro, wants to work less and earn more through Aesthetic Nursing.
The nurse plans to work in her own clinic in partnership with her husband, a dentist who performs procedures such as Orofacial Harmonization. She can count on his support to live the aesthetics dream.
Want to know how the Aesthetic Nurse has been standing out in one of the largest job markets in the world? Follow her story in this success story.
Aesthetic Nurse at the start of her career
The Aesthetic Nurse placed first when she took the entrance exam for her field of study. Topping the list led to 14 years working in hospitals, a successful career in the job market.
At that time, she was torn between two options: nursing or biomedicine, and the first ended up being her choice. “It was meant to be,” she said. “I believe nursing actually chose me,” she said.
Today, Dr. Juliana works in two public hospitals, in different areas: emergency and infectious diseases. But at a certain point in her career, her reality was no longer enough. “It no longer fulfilled me because I only work with direct nursing care procedures, that pathology side,” she said.
How to work as an Aesthetic Nurse?
With her field of training building a sense of insufficiency in her career, the Aesthetic Nurse began looking for other opportunities.
In Aesthetic Nursing, she can achieve her professional dreams, such as starting a business in aesthetics to perform procedures and stand out in one of the greatest market powerhouses in the world. That is her plan. “I wanted a field that would give me more opportunities as an entrepreneur,” she said.
What are the benefits of being an Aesthetic Nurse?
Besides the great possibilities of entrepreneurship in aesthetics, the complex routine of hospitals also caught Dr. Juliana's attention, but as a negative warning.
That is because many nurses are clear when they say that the exhausting life of on-call shifts drains their strength.
Working double shifts, being away from family, and missing many moments of life can discourage any professional. Especially if the reward for the journey turns out not to be worth it.
And the nurse plans to work in Aesthetic Nursing to give up those night-shift schedules and have more autonomy and professional freedom. She wants to live, have more time, and still earn as if she worked 24 hours a day.
“Spending many hours away from home and exposed is a very tiring life,” she said. “Besides the risk, there is also physical and mental fatigue. We can't keep up our routine, because we have that schedule. No weekends or holidays,” she said.
Comparing returns
According to the Aesthetic Nurse, a nursing professional's salary ends up not being much of an attraction in the long run. “The financial return is fixed, with no way to grow financially. It's that frozen salary for your whole life,” she said.
Like her, Dr. Mayara also invested in Aesthetic Nursing in search of professional quality.
The Aesthetic Nurse and her plans
Dr. Juliana had her family's support to invest in the aesthetics market. In her specialization, she travels 320 km to be able to practice and develop her skills as an Aesthetic Nurse. It is an effort that makes a difference.
Although her family is united in supporting the nurse's dream, this is not the only occasion on which they are together professionally.
Perfect marriage
The Aesthetic Nurse, besides working in hospitals, has a clinic with her husband, a dentist who performs Orofacial Harmonization (OFH). Their marriage is perfect.
He can perform procedures in the facial region, while she wants to focus on Body Harmonization. “I'm managing to reach my future,” she said. “I want to work a little more in health and well-being, so that the person feels that effect in their life,” she said.
Despite the happiness of being an Aesthetic Nurse, for her, the presence of nurses in this job market needs to keep growing. “We still have many challenges with the Council, with many struggles still ahead,” she said. “It is an area that grows a lot,” she said.
