Lack of recognition and low pay lead a nurse to find himself again in aesthetics

Guilherme is passionate about nursing. Experiencing the hospital world was one of the reasons he earned a nursing degree, with the dream of becoming a recognized professional and making a difference in people's lives. But not everything was rosy along the way, and the reality of the job market confronted him.

One of the big revelations, in Guilherme's case, was realizing he was undervalued as a nursing professional, including pay that was not commensurate with his dedication and determination. Exhausting shifts and draining schedules undermined any possibility of a healthy social life. That was when he decided to take the reins of his own life and venture into a new field: aesthetics.

The specialization in aesthetic nursing was a turning point in Guilherme's career. The fears, doubts and obstacles he believed he would find in this new venture as an aesthetic nurse were quickly overcome when he saw the quality of the teaching. According to Guilherme, the confidence the faculty gave students was fundamental to his development during the postgraduate program. 

“Professor Janete gave me a lot of confidence by telling me that I did have the ability to perform the procedures. I confess I was afraid and doubted myself. That gave me the strength to stay in the field, and I will never forget what Nepuga was in my life.”

That injection of confidence pushed him to keep going in the field, and he will never forget the fundamental role the institution played in his journey. Thanks to his specialization, he is recognized and respected in the aesthetics clinics where he works.

As mentioned, Guilherme did not see growth potential in hospital settings, and despite his desire to specialize in that area, the future was not as bright as he had imagined. 

With aesthetics, Guilherme has the opportunity for financial independence and the recognition he had longed for. He says that when he entered the postgraduate program in aesthetic nursing, he envisioned the dream of opening his own clinic and treating his patients in a space that was pleasant for him and gave him the expected return.

The search for a specialization led him to Nepuga, where he found not only technical knowledge but also a holistic view of aesthetics, that is, a panoramic view of all its opportunities. That training not only prepared him for the job market but also gave him a deep understanding of the relationship between theory and practice.

“After I understood what aesthetics was, I started looking at institutions where I could do a specialization in aesthetics. At those institutions, I was looking for a place with a more holistic view, not focused on just one thing, because there are some courses you take on toxin or hyaluronic acid. But Nepuga's postgraduate program showed me several areas.”

All the background acquired in the specialization in aesthetic nursing allowed Guilherme to work in partner clinics in Londrina, his current city. His performance is so valued that the nurse says he has a constant flow of patients.

“When I finished the program, my first idea was to open a clinic. I ended up opening a private office, and it worked out great, it was really good. But after I opened the office, I understood that having the postgraduate degree isn't enough, an excellent course isn't enough; you have to understand marketing, and today you have to understand Instagram and social media very well to bring patients to you. So I paused my office to understand how that world works. Today I work in partner clinics here in my city, Londrina. I work with injectables, with a very high flow of patients, and that's how you gain a lot of confidence: by seeing lots of patients and solving lots of cases.”

A specialization that gives you an edge in the market

According to Guilherme, thanks to his training at Nepuga he found himself a step ahead in the market. Today, Guilherme is recognized as a reference in his region. With an affinity for botulinum toxin procedures, he says the emotional impact is one of the main reasons he persists and keeps evolving. Guilherme feels fulfilled by helping his patients not just change their appearance but regain their self-esteem and self-confidence. 

Guilherme also highlights the importance of Dr. Ana Carolina for the development of aesthetic health. He sees Dr. Ana as an inspiration for her achievements, not only for biomedical professionals but for the doors she opened for other professions, such as nurses, for example. 

After two years working as an aesthetic nurse, he is satisfied with the recognition he has earned, since he says he is qualified thanks to the methods learned at Nepuga. With the freedom to explore his techniques, he receives a lot of positive feedback from his patients, thanks each one for their loyalty and confirms he made the best choice.
