The nurse honored in this story left operating room shifts behind and is now planning to start a business in Portugal.
While taking part in the hands-on practice of a clinical immersion period in Ribeirão Preto (SP) last year, our team had the chance to interview aesthetic nurse Luan Brenner for the Success Stories section. At that time, the then postgraduate student already stood out for his professional vision and dedication.
Now, the new circumstances of his career, resulting from all his effort inside and outside the Postgraduate Program in Aesthetic Nursing, deserve to be highlighted once again, because Dr. Luan Brenner is one of the students honored in the Academic Excellence Award 2022.
This recognition is due especially to his remarkable performance throughout the postgraduate program, shown in his participation and use of the core content and clinical immersions.
The Experience of Operating Room Shifts
To recall a bit more of his journey, Dr. Luan has solid experience working in operating rooms, and it was during that experience that he realized he could take his career in a different direction.
Faced with the exhausting reality of the shifts he worked, like most nurses, he dealt with draining routines of shifts devoted to treating illness.
But a light came on when he started noticing the change that aesthetic procedures can bring to people's well-being, and for him this became a clear counterpoint to the idea that health professionals work exclusively with pathologies.
“I saw that it was possible to improve the patient's quality of life, I saw that it was possible to leave an appointment with higher self-esteem. Besides her leaving feeling good, you feel good too.”
At the time of this realization, Luan was working with a plastic surgeon and was able to witness firsthand the life change that aesthetics can bring, and he then began researching specialization courses so he could work with more autonomy in this area.
In the surgical setting, he had contact with several specialties, such as proctology, gastroenterology and urology, but what really enchanted him was aesthetics.
Finding Aesthetic Nursing
Researching the topic, he found in the specialization in Aesthetic Nursing the course that best fit what he was looking for. And, as already mentioned, he made the most of every experience during that period, even creating valuable opportunities from networking with colleagues.
During our most recent conversation, he spoke with excitement about a body contouring protocol he is working to develop, and also about an important plan for his future.
He currently works in Ribeirão Preto and provides mentoring in São Paulo. But, curious and alert to opportunities, he also obtained certification to work abroad and, since he has Portuguese citizenship, is planning to open his own clinic in Portugal.
