In the previous article, we shared the introduction that Dr. Ana Carolina Puga gave during her Contemporary Facial Harmonization talk at Feridas 2022. On that occasion, she spoke about the history of aesthetic health in Brazil.
Now, this new article brings the information Dr. Ana shared with the congress attendees about contemporary facial harmonization. She gave several tips so that aesthetic nurses can become a reference in their field.
The Market Is Promising for Aesthetic Nurses
“The clock doesn't stop. Aging continues. Year after year, we want to grow professionally. Patients want to rejuvenate.”
With this brief reflection, Dr. Ana Carolina Puga offers a very current thought about the job market for aesthetic nurses and other health professionals.
“We have two positives: you want to grow professionally and the patient wants to rejuvenate. So you are going to match the hunger with the desire to eat. That way, you will offer them procedures that truly prevent and help rejuvenate.”
From there, we turned the second part of Dr. Ana's talk into tips. Check them out!
1 – Patient Assessment
Before anything else, it is important to know what the patient is looking for in aesthetic procedures. She brings a historical perspective showing that terms like “beauty” and “rejuvenation” are tied to many personal and individual matters.
“Within Pugacode, a method I developed, I say that I always look at my patient with a very individual eye. And I get a feel for my patient to know how prepared they are to rejuvenate.”
In practice, she says that even using the best technique and the best product, if the patient is not well prepared to take that step in aesthetics, they will not see a good final result. That is why her first tip is:
“Assess your patient to find out how prepared they are to rejuvenate.”
2 – Patient Preparation
The second tip is about helping the patient prepare for the changes. “And I'm not just talking about the mental side, but the physical side too. For example, regarding vitamins, water, and everything else that is part of it.”
From a conversation with the patient, the professional can take a position even before starting any of the aesthetic procedures. “I have to know where my patient is to know how far I can go.”
Especially because the concept of beauty is individual. “For me, beauty is this: giving the patient back their self-esteem. Today, with facial harmonization, we see many people with a beauty very close to when they were young.”
My Pugacode method seeks exactly that:
“Giving the patient back their self-esteem.”
3 – Patient Awareness
“Beauty, in any translation, speaks of what is beautiful and good. A beautiful person is a good person. This applies to your patient. They need to be in a good frame of mind too. That way, they will be able to enjoy your procedure.”
She tells of some situations in which she had to do a great deal of awareness work to rid patients of limiting beliefs and myths.
In fact, Dr. Ana released a video series that offers this kind of reflection. “I have a documentary, Invisible Beauty, in which I mention that at any age there is a beauty that can be drawn from life's cycles.” Watch the series on YouTube:
4 – The Ideal Result for the Patient
The last tip is about the result. Have you ever stopped to think that what you consider ideal is not always what the patient considers ideal? This has become more and more common. That is why the 3rd Revolution is about getting to know and understand patients who seek aesthetic treatments.
“And within facial harmonization, I place great value on bringing back their youth while keeping the patient's features. That Pythagorean point of view, which developed the golden ratio, has been left behind and is not the only point of view.”
And she adds: “When we study history, we see that there are several applications of Pythagoras, but it is not what we seek today. We can bring youth back to our patient without having to be as demanding as Pythagoras was.”
And she concludes: “Often, the patient doesn't have such an asymmetrical face, but is happy that way. And then you come along with your super knowledge and theory, putting hang-ups in their head that they had never even noticed.”
So she gives this tip: “assess the patient to find out what is bothering them.”
Specializing in Aesthetic Nursing
Before ending her talk on contemporary facial harmonization, Dr. Ana comments on the importance of specializing in aesthetic nursing in order to perform aesthetic procedures.
Nepuga's hybrid Postgraduate Program in aesthetic nursing is one option. In it, you can learn techniques in injectable aesthetics, facial harmonization, ozone therapy, botulinum toxin, filler application, PDO threads, and much more.
The postgraduate program in naturopathy, which has everything to do with preparing the patient for procedures, is one of the most recommended for nurses. With the initial classes, people move straight into practice.
