As you learn a bit more about her journey, you will see that she only regained her enthusiasm for the profession when she realized she could work in aesthetics as a pharmacist.
Since the start of her professional journey, Dr. Bárbara Ribeiro already had a sparkle in her eyes, a sparkle aimed at the field of aesthetics. In fact, she began a degree in aesthetics and cosmetology, but ended up suspending her enrollment because of outside direction that led her to study pharmacy.
It turns out there was a lot of encouragement to continue the family's pharmacy business, especially from her father, whom Bárbara remembers most when she talks about the situation: "We're already in the business, it will be easier for you," her father would recommend.
So Bárbara followed her family's advice, but never stopped being passionate about aesthetics. It was 4 years of undergraduate study, very hard-earned years, according to her.
Working in Aesthetics as a Pharmacist Is Possible!
During her pharmacy degree, however, she began to better understand her possibilities within the field and, researching its scope further, watched the aesthetics specialty grow, both among pharmacists and in other health training and practice areas.
Moving into the field she always wanted began to take shape as a possibility, and became real when she kept studying, now dedicated to the specialty she truly loves.

Starting Your Own Business in the Field Is Also Possible
Bárbara says she took a course in the field, but didn't have a very positive experience working for other people at an aesthetics clinic. She realized she wanted to start her own business, and the postgraduate program in aesthetic pharmacy came as a way to pursue that autonomy.
For her, it's a matter of managing her career in the way that makes the most sense. In the program, she is developing the skills and competencies needed to put her vision into practice, in terms of business as well as protocols and ways of caring for her patients.
About her own future in aesthetics, Bárbara is very clear: "I don't want to be recognized worldwide, nothing like that, but I want to be recognized by my patients, I want to be recognized by the people around me, and I want to make a difference in those people's lives. So I want to improve that person's self-esteem and their life. That's what I want."
The Difference Between Career Paths
For now, she continues to work at the family pharmacy, where she has been for 9 years – the last 2 as a pharmacist – so she has a fairly complete sense of what the routine inside a pharmacy is like.
For her, the main difference between careers in pharmacies and in aesthetics is the clientele: on one side, people anxious about their own health; on the other, people looking for change, happy with the possibility of transforming and taking care of themselves.
That is why she is so passionate about aesthetics: her passion comes from the potential to transform people's lives.
She even believes it isn't a change brought about by procedures, but by seeking self-care, looking at yourself with kindness and changing from the inside out. In her words: "Who doesn't want to look in the mirror and think they're beautiful? Beauty goes far beyond that, it goes from the inside out. So if you start taking care of yourself, looking in the mirror and thinking you're more beautiful, that's for life."
Her words reveal the affection she has for the professional path she chose. It is with this affection and dedication that she is training, to the benefit of every patient who has the opportunity, one more aesthetic health professional passionate about what she does.
