Aesthetic Biology became a reality for biologists at the end of 2020, when the profession was authorized to practice by the Federal Council of Biology of Brazil (CFBio).
Since then, many professionals have seen this as an opportunity to change their lives or even increase their income through aesthetics.
As we have seen in some success stories here, working in aesthetic health was a dream that came second in the lives of biologists, like the story of Dr. Patrícia.
But in this article, you will learn about the journey of Dr. Guilherme Garcez Cunha, a biologist who is currently pursuing a postgraduate degree in Aesthetic Biology, something that was unexpected in his life.
Unexpected, yet captivating
For Dr. Guilherme, even becoming a biologist was not part of the plan. He graduated in biology from a federal university, one of the programs he had been accepted into. However, his dream was to study veterinary medicine.
“Biology was just a backup program while I waited to get into veterinary medicine. But in the very first semester I fell in love with biology. I graduated in 2010, finished my master's in 2013, and completed my doctorate in 2020,” he says.
He is currently a civil servant and works in environmental licensing in Coronel Barros (RS). His calling has always been to bring well-being to people, so in addition to enjoying caring for the environment, he was also captivated by aesthetic biology.
“In both areas I can promote people's well-being, because if the environment is doing well, the world is doing well. And as for aesthetics, caring for someone's health and self-esteem is also providing a better quality of life,” he explains.

The push
Since his husband already has a degree in Aesthetics and Cosmetology and works in a space in their city, when the CFBio authorized biologists in the field, Dr. Guilherme quickly got the idea. He sought to specialize in aesthetic biology and also join his partner professionally.
“Unexpectedly, once again, because of the council's authorization at the end of last year, I decided to do my postgraduate program. In addition to my husband working in the field, I was driven by the opportunity to add more roles and help people raise their self-esteem,” the doctor reveals.
Future in Aesthetic Biology
The plan is to work alongside his husband and help with the aesthetics venture. Dr. Guilherme says he finishes his postgraduate program in February 2022, and that he and his husband plan to expand the aesthetics space and eventually turn it into a clinic.
The couple has two children, and increasing their income by working in aesthetic biology is their goal for giving the family greater financial stability.
The biologist's idea is to split his time between environmental licensing and aesthetics patient care.
“My journey in this field is still short, but biology is very interesting within this area. I have quite a lot of knowledge about many things regarding the human body, and some people are even prejudiced, thinking that a biologist is geared only toward something specific, but that is not the case. Aesthetics is a super valid path, a rewarding profession because it makes people happier, in addition to the excellent financial return,” the doctor stresses.
Dr. Guilherme emphasizes and advises that biologists need to learn more about the areas available for building a career. “It is a very valid field and a really great path to take, adding services and value,” he concludes.
