Management Tools – Relive What You Learned at the Management and Business Workshop

Did you follow all the talks at the Management and Business Workshop? Professor Fábio Pegorari, who teaches Time Management, brings in this article a summary of Management Tools such as 5W2H and the GUT Matrix, which was the topic of his talk.

5W2H management tools

The 5W2H tool was created by professionals in Japan's automotive industry as an auxiliary tool for using the PDCA cycle (Plan, Do, Check, and Act).

Used mainly in the planning phase, it was applied in a practical way to better organize the flow of processes, deadlines, and responsibilities that had to be carried out efficiently and effectively.

This is one of the best-known Management Tools. It stands out in the business's operational action plan, on the premise of listing what will be done, why, where, who will be responsible for the task, when and how it will be carried out, as well as its funding sources.

The 5W acronym stands for:

  • What (what will be done?)
  • Why (why will it be done?)
  • Where (where will it be done?)
  • When (when will it be done?)
  • Who (who will do it?)

The 2H acronym stands for:

  • How (how will it be done?)
  • How Much (how much will it cost?)

This tool is an important management component because it lists activities, deadlines, operational flow, and procedures and protocols for better management and daily follow-up of tasks by the manager.

GUT Matrix (another management tool)

The GUT Matrix stands for Gravity, Urgency, and Tendency of a problem. We know the manager's routine is quite complex, and this tool is worth using because it helps solve everyday problems and makes it possible to quantify them as their severity evolves.

The priority matrix was developed by authors Charles H. Kepner and Benjamin B. Tregoe in 1981 with the aim of solving multiple problems.

In our contemporary daily life, we can see how much this tool can help managers make decisions, from strategic/tactical planning through its careful application in the daily (operational) and dynamic processes of management.

Management and Business Workshop

Between October and December 2021, a series of talks was given by Fapuga professors, covering much more than just Management Tools. That series was called the Management and Business Workshop.

If you missed any content, there is no need to worry. In the student portal, under the events tab, you can watch all the talks.

You can also stay on top of everything here on the Fapuga blog , since we will have several articles about each talk that was given.
