Surgical Orofacial Harmonization Module Surprises with the Number of Patients

Last weekend, one of the most anticipated stages of the HOF specialization took place: the period of clinical immersion dedicated to surgical procedures. The surgical HOF module was one of the most anticipated, and now, after great dedication from the class and the entire team involved, it has finally taken place, with great success.

Performing head and neck surgeries is one of the biggest differentiators of the aesthetics Postgraduate Program for dentists.

During this period, rich in practice with real patients, the dentists were able to perform mechanical double chin liposuction, temporal lifts, cervical lifts, and buccal fat removal (bichectomy), as well as reinforce other practices from the previous module.

The program coordinator, Dr. Diogo Branco, shares a bit about the experience:

“The class was surprised by the number of patients and the number of procedures performed. I got very positive feedback,” he said. “They are much more confident. Taking a complete Postgraduate Program, which is different from a three-day short course, for example, made all the difference. They performed the surgeries with confidence and mastery.”

Postgraduate student Dr. Laila Graziela also commented, highlighting her surprise at the number of real patients who took part in this period of clinical immersion:

“I'm impressed, because there are a lot of patients, and this is an area where you can't bring in that many. With this many patients, we'll be able to gain a lot of clinical experience and leave with more experience to practice in the office.”

She added, about the demand for surgical procedures for aesthetic purposes: “I see a lot of demand, but I don't see much training to be able to meet it, so that is a differentiator of this program right now.”

One of the last modules of this journey

This is one of the last practical modules (clinical immersion) and marks a very special moment for this class of dentists about to graduate.

Here on the blog, we have provided complete coverage of all the most important stages of the Postgraduate Program in Orofacial and Surgical Harmonization, including accounts of the careers and journeys of most of the professionals who are now graduating from the specialization.

It was clear throughout the specialization that the surgical HOF module was eagerly awaited, since it brings a new level of care and techniques that these professionals are being trained to offer.

Especially because many of the dentists in the class were already experienced in facial harmonization procedures even before starting the program, which also enriched the exchange of experiences.

The surgical HOF module meeting a market demand

Dr. Janice Ávila is one of the professionals in this class with the most experience in facial harmonization, having worked in the field for about 9 years. She now works exclusively in aesthetics, and she also spoke with us about the surgical module, saying:

“This is one of the few programs we have in Brazil with a surgical component, and since that's my focus, I'm getting 100% out of it.”

She added, about the demand for surgical procedures: “So when you offer something with greater durability, which moves into the surgical side, it gets great acceptance. And for the professional it's wonderful, because, in financial terms, in terms of profit, it offers us a very good return.”

It is both a differentiator of the program and of the dental profession, the only one besides medicine that can perform more invasive aesthetic procedures, delivering interventions that enhance the harmony of the face and neck in a lasting way.

Dr. Janice believes the segment still has a lot of room to grow, depending on how well society understands the great potential of dentists in this field, and on training more professionals to offer these procedures and show in practice what they are capable of.

With deep and complex skill development in this module's clinical immersion, the period marks an advanced training process that is set to revolutionize these professionals' careers. It is a program nearing its end, but opening up so many other possibilities for providing care through aesthetic and integrative health.
