Biomedical Professional of the Year – Dr. Ana Carolina Puga Receives CFBM Award

“Aesthetic Biomedicine is what it is thanks to you and your courage. If Ana Carolina Puga had not gone to the Council in 2006 and if we had not made the Resolution, the field would not exist today. Today, aesthetics is the second specialization of Biomedicine in the country”.

That was one of the statements by the President of Brazil's Federal Council of Biomedicine, Dr. Silvio José Cecchi, when presenting Dr. Ana Carolina Puga with the Biomedical Professional of the Year award at an event held at Mansão Hasbaya, in São Paulo (SP), in early October.

The Biomedical Professional of the Year award

Biomedicine is fundamental to the progress of health and social well-being. Across the country, there are more than 100,000 licensed biomedical professionals in various specialties, and some stand out for new discoveries, innovations, solutions, and scientific work.

That is why the Federal Council of Biomedicine (CFBM) recognizes the profession with the “Biomedical Professionals of the Year” honor, presented at the XVII Brazilian Congress of Biomedicine, the V International Congress of Biomedicine, and the I Brazilian and International Congress of Aesthetic Biomedicine.

Among the outstanding biomedical professionals, in the year Aesthetic Biomedicine turned 12, Dr. Ana Carolina Puga was honored. The plaque and the medal were presented during the ceremony. For Dr. Ana, it represents a victory:

“It was one of the most special moments of my career, without a doubt. Dr. Silvio José Cecchi's words about our fight for Aesthetic Biomedicine represent how I feel after 12 years of our dream. The feeling is one of victory”. See some photos:

The creation of Aesthetic Biomedicine

During the tribute, Dr. Silvio José Cecchi spoke about Dr. Ana's fight.

“I wanted to make a special tribute for the following reason: at the beginning, people were against it and it was a very big fight. But we had colleagues, like you, who blazed a trail across Brazil. They went with nothing but courage and determination to make a name for our profession”.

“And aesthetics, which today is all of this, began because Ana started working in this field. That was in 2006, when she came to us to talk about this idea. We went to the Council and presented everything about what Aesthetic Biomedicine was”.

“We recognized the efforts and made a Resolution. At the beginning it was hard, we had many problems, but look where Aesthetic Biomedicine has gotten today. In numbers, it represents the second specialization of Biomedicine”.

“We have to acknowledge this among friends. If Aesthetic Biomedicine is what it is, it is certainly thanks to you and your courage. If Ana had not gone to the Council and if we had not made the Resolution, this field would not exist”.

The growth of Aesthetic Biomedicine

Dr. Dácio Campos, President of the Regional Council of Biomedicine of the 1st Region, was also at the event. He spoke about this biomedicine specialization.

“It is a specialization that gives more autonomy, more freedom, and also the chance to earn more money in the profession. And we are growing more and more”.

“We grew a lot during the pandemic. Our profession was revitalized thanks to your effort and the work you did. That is why it is very fair that you are remembered and honored here today”.

“This is the second specialization of Biomedicine, with more than 5,000 registered professionals and a projection of reaching 20,000 in the next 5 years”.

The feeling of victory

After the moving speeches by the Presidents of the Councils, Dr. Ana Carolina Puga said that this was an incredible moment in her life and that it brought the “feeling of victory”.

“At the moment he gave that speech, that tribute especially for me, it was the greatest award of the night. It was much more than the plaque and the certificate. Those words of his, recognizing all the fight I fought in early 2006, moved me”.

“Truly, Aesthetic Biomedicine is here to stay and is recognized by everyone as one of the main areas of preference for biomedical professionals. After all, since Aesthetic Biomedicine became a specialty, it has transformed the lives of more than 50,000 biomedical professionals”.

The first Aesthetic Biomedicine class

Currently, Dr. Ana Carolina Puga serves as founder of the Ana Carolina Puga Clinics, Nepuga (Ana Carolina Puga Study Center), FAPUGA (Ana Carolina Puga Colleges), SBBME (Brazilian Society of Biomedicine), and ABRASEI (Brazilian Association of Aesthetic and Integrative Health).

But before that, back in 2006, was when she began the efforts to create Aesthetic Biomedicine. Later, in 2010, it made it possible for biomedical professionals to take their careers to a new level, with more autonomy, freedom, and opportunity to work in aesthetics.

In 2022, the same year Dr. Ana was named Biomedical Professional of the Year and honored for her contribution to Aesthetic Biomedicine, the 12th anniversary of Dr. Ana Carolina Puga's 1st Aesthetic Biomedicine class is also celebrated. She shares the details in this article.
