Among the reasons for the boom in aesthetics, from profitability to improved quality of life, we have a study on the profile of aesthetics professionals!
In this context, aesthetics is gaining prominence because it is directly tied to each person's self-esteem, self-confidence, health, and well-being. This increasingly drives the supply and demand relationship in the market, and motivates the new generation of well-qualified professionals who aim to meet this biopsychosocial demand.
In response to this societal demand, Nepuga/FAPUGA plays its role as a higher education institution (IES) accredited by Brazil's MEC (Ministry of Education), meeting these educational needs. With the aim of bringing responsible, qualified, and highly sought-after health specialists into the job market, standalone courses and postgraduate programs were made available.
The profile of aesthetics professionals
The overwhelming majority of aesthetics professionals continue to be women: about 92% of Nepuga/FAPUGA students in 2020/2021 identify as women, and 8% are men. Gradually, the number of men has been increasing every year.
According to a survey carried out by the institution's Permanent Evaluation Committee (CPA), which serves the country's main urban regions, most future aestheticians are concentrated in the states of São Paulo, Minas Gerais, and Rio Grande do Sul, as shown in the chart below.
This shows that the aesthetics market in these states is more widespread. In addition, among the professions that can qualify for aesthetics, the breakdown presents interesting data collected by the institution.
Another interesting fact about the profile of aesthetics professionals! About 40% of the professionals who specialize in aesthetic health are biomedical professionals, followed by pharmacists, nurses, physiotherapists, and biologists.
These health professions of origin provide the theoretical background future aestheticians need to acquire all the knowledge and hands-on experience to forge their path in the job market.
Why did they choose to work in aesthetic health?
Dr. Cássia do Carmo , who lives in São Carlos-SP, is the first professional representing a profile of aesthetics professionals. She worked as a nurse for more than 20 years, but found herself in aesthetics:
“I had to take time off from my work, and during that period I found quality of life. I decided to do the postgraduate program in aesthetic nursing to work with injectables, and now I have had my own clinic for 1 year.”

“So I thought about aesthetics, because I saw in the field a chance to grow, not only in teaching, but also by working with people's beauty and self-esteem,”says Dr. and faculty member Farley Eleandro of Montes Claros-MG, who is a biomedical professional and a postgraduate student in Aesthetic Biomedicine at Nepuga/FAPUGA.
Dr. Gabriella Albino of Poços de Caldas – MG, is an aesthetic pharmacist and talks about the change in her life. She represents a profile of aesthetics professionals.
“Among the options I had, aesthetics is the one that would give me the autonomy I wanted. You can't help but fall in love with aesthetics; in 1 month we can change a person's life by improving their self-esteem.”, she says.
“What I like about aesthetics is that I can work independently. As a biologist, how could I be independent? It's much more complex. In aesthetics, if you are a good professional, you can earn well.” says Dr. Patrícia Martins , originally from Rio de Janeiro-RJ, a postgraduate student in Aesthetic Biology at Nepuga/FAPUGA.
The biomedical professional and pharmacist Dr. Graziella Souza of Ibiá – MG found in the aesthetics specialization something she had been looking for a long time. She represents one of the profiles of aesthetics professionals.
“Aesthetics was always something I wanted ever since I finished my degree. I didn't want to be stuck in a drugstore and hospitals; I wanted to have my own practice and make my schedule flexible.”.

Dr. Jéssica Flores of Nova Hamburgo – RS is an aesthetic nurse and tells how she got started in aesthetics, also bringing an interesting profile of aesthetics professionals.
“I started offering facial cleansing and diamond peel. In November 2020 I decided I needed a new professional direction and enrolled in the postgraduate program; I have been specializing ever since”.
“Today, without specialization it is harder to achieve financial stability. That's why I advise everyone to dedicate themselves more and more to being the best professional for their patients. Not everything is only about money; we deal with lives and feelings,” advises Dr. Simone Maria de Lima Silva, of Carapicuíba-SP, a postgraduate student in aesthetic pharmacy.
